Cleanest Boost Gauge install on MS3

Just thinking about it VoiceKoil, I think you could still have functionality of a vent and the nice gauge intall via fiberglassing. The easiest way I could think of doing it would be to use fleece or speaker cloth to form a mold, within the cavity of the vent, and once the form is done, reinforce it with multiple layers of 'glass. At that point, when it is is good and strong, you could take a small dremel or drill bit, and make holes or some other kind of venting around the form. Finally make a small trim ring using textured ABS plastic, or black-underpainted plexi, or some other creative means, and you'll be all set.

I just did that install today on my friends MS3... It came out really good.. Except for the on and off rain which led to a couple hours down time but w/e ... Cant wait till i get my MS3...

Nice clean install, but i bet your bosst gauge is getting a little chilly when the aircon is on heheheh.Mind you don`t get a short circuit due to condensation.Electronic equipment and direct cold blowing aircon don`t get along.

Well to keep away the condensation, block the vent with some stuffing. Just make sure you take it out in the winter if you know what I'm saying. (FIRE FIRE!)

lol yeh i know.. but i dont think miami winters get that cold.. but there is about 3.5 inches of foam(the one that kinda feels like plastic like) cut out that fills the vent fully.. so hopefully it will do the trick...(fingers crossed)

I posted pics in my thread with the block off plate that I used. Here it is again to show you the proper way to do it.....using just foam still might let air through and I did not want to risk it.

The plastic is clear so it is kind of hard to see. I lined the outside of the plastic with another strip of foam, the same as Mazda uses. Then I ran the wires between those two. Perfect seal.

That is just beautiful. Which Defi guage were you looking at?? I might be down to do this. Look for a PM from me in the future.

I am going to be doing this same in stall with a 60mm DEFI BF amber gauge in the vent. The Defi 60mm gauge almost perfectly fits in there and the silver edging even matches the stock silver trim..its gonna work perfect.

I will be doing a full install write up so stay tuned.

Eat your hearts out! Today I installed my Electronic Greddy boost gauge, (nana) and I have to say it turned out perfect. I havent seen anyone attempt this install on a MS3 yet, It took about 2 hours including cutting the vent apart and mounting the guage inside the vent peice, I used a desk gromet and shaved out the inside to make the 52mm gauge fit. I bought a new vent from my dealer, and used that for the project. I wanted to get the Defi guage but I didnt want to spend $380 right now, Im putting together my fmic this week so I was really in need for a boost gauge. The only complaint I have is it does get a little sun glare, not bad though.

If any questions feel free to ask, Im making this description somewhat breif because Im in a hurry to go out, and Im sure people will ask more than I will explain so Ill wait until the questions asked. ALSO if anyone would like me to make a vent feel free to PM, I could work out a whole unit if needed. Heres some pics!

Please no comments about how Im not going to be as cold or hot as I could be from my vent being blocked. ALSO I put a peice of plastic and foam in between the vent to block the air flow to the gauge for others that may be concerned about that. PLEASE ENJOY!

The Greddy gauge was suppose to be Red, instead its more of a dull orangish color, works great and matches pretty close, it matches really well when everythings off in the daytime.

And thank you Rotus8 for a little info on the interior panels! (breakn)
