Class II hitches

I've seen someone in the hitch thread mention that they installed a class II hitch on their 5. Does anyone know who that was, and what hitch it was. I've been trying to find a hitch mount bike rack for my mountain bike, but finding one that fits a class 1 hitch is proving to be difficult. All the ones I've found so far require bolting to a hitch ball, not what I wanted to do at all.

I have the hitch and I have a new mountain bike rack to show if I get some pics. BTW the hitch for the 5 can be class 1 with a 200LBS tongue eh.

Class I receiver style. I have never seen a class II for the 5.

I have a custom class II hitch on mine.. it is posted on here somewhere. I got it custom made at a welding shop for $150.00 Cdn. And I have a bike rack for the rear that utilizes the 2" opening.

Looking high & low for a class II hitch. I'd like to have the same bike carrier for my '07 Mazda5 and '06 Forester X. The Forester takes a Class II and (as far I can find) the 5 will only take a Class I. Aside from a custom Class II hitch for the 5, are there any other ideas?

Are there II/I adapter plates for the bike rack? Not sure.

My bike rack came with an adapter. I also have an adapter that makes the class 1 into a 2" receiver.

What are you all talking about? The only difference between a class I and II is towing capacity. Receiver attachment size and shape (receivers are not required) can vary, though they're nearly-always 1-1/4" square from a mass producer. If you have a name-brand hitch with a 2" receiver, you most likely have a class III hitch, though you may have a fairly unique class II.

In any event, if all you want is to use a 2" receiver mounted carrier on a 1-1/4" hitch, get the adapter from your local U-Haul or the etrailer one above or the same thing from any of a wide variety of similar sources. Just watch total tongue weight (class I is 200 lbs limit, class II is 350).

Anyone find a Class 2 (2") hitch? - want for bike rack

Hi all,

I'm looking at picking up a hitch for a bike rack and one of those rear-mounted racks to hold the cooler, etc.
Anyone seen a class 2 hitch for the Mazda5, so I have a 2" receiver to work with? I'd prefer that as opposed to using an adapter for things. Additionally, I'm hoping for the additional tongue weight that a bigger hitch would have.

I know better and won't try pulling too much with it, really wanting it just for hanging a few items off the back (doesn't affect gas mileage like a roof rack)
