CJ WILSON RACING ANNOUNCES DRIVER ROSTERS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH MODSPACE AND CONSTRUCT CORPS
-- MAZDA TEAM READY FOR 2012 CONTINENTAL TIRE SPORTS CAR CHALLENGE SEASON --
AUSTIN, TX (January 17, 2012) – CJ Wilson Racing will head to the Daytona International Speedway later this month for the opening round of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Daytona 200, with a two-car effort and a full roster. Jason Saini, Chad McCumbee, Bruce Ledoux and Marc Miller will all represent the CJ Wilson Racing team to start off the season.
For the 2012 season, the team will be fielding a pair Mazdas. The No. 03 entry will be piloted by Saini and McCumbee while the No. 04 car will have Ledoux and Miller sharing the driving duties. Both cars will feature new marketing partners, ModSpace, Construct Corps and Forza 4/Xbox.
"We are very excited to make our debut in the Grand Am ST class with Mazda and all of our marketing partners,” said CJ Wilson, CJ Wilson Racing Team Principle. “ModSpace, Construct Corp, Forza 4 & Xbox are new partners for us and they will join Mazda, New Balance, Phiten, Oakley and CJ Wilson Children’s Charities for this season. It is our goal to develop our program up the Grand Am ladder and the CTSCC ST class is definitely a great logical step for us to accomplish that.”
"ModSpace Motorsports and our marketing partner, Construct Corps, is very excited to continue their partnership with CJ Wilson racing," stated William Mann, Vice President of Motorsports for ModSpace. "It was an easy decision to continue our relationship with this team in a new series after the incredible job they did for us last year in the Mazda MX5 Cup Series."
Saini will return to Grand Am competition having won the Mazda MX-5 Cup championship involving him in Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development Ladder where he went on to “Rookie of the Year” and runner-up in the World Challenge series. He will be paired with Chad McCumbee, a front runner in both ARCA and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition. The duo will pilot the No. 03 ModSpace/Construct Corp/Forza4/Xbox Mazda MX-5 with support from New Balance, Phiten, Oakley and CJ Wilson Children’s Charities.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back in a Mazda and fighting for a championship in the Grand Am ST series,” said Jason Saini, CJ Wilson Racing co-owner/driver. “We worked with Chad last year in a Mazda MX5 Cup Series race and though most of his experience has been in the stock car realm, his feedback and road course abilities are excellent. We look forward to having a very strong driver pairing between the two of us for the 2012 season and we hope to help Mazda defend their manufacturer’s title.”
The team’s second entry, the No. 04 ModSpace/Construct Corp/Guardian Angel Motorsports/RaceNowForAutism.org Mazda MX-5 with support from New Balance, Phiten, Forza 4 and Oakley, will be piloted by Marc Miller and Bruce Ledoux. Ledoux’s background includes CTSCC and Rolex GT competition and has competed in three Rolex 24-Hours At Daytona. Miller was the 2009 Mazda MX-5 Cup runner-up and has a very diverse background of formula car, stock car and karting competition, including being a 2008 US National Rotax Karting Champion.
The team’s engineering role will be filled by Andris Laivins, whose previous experience has included helping Mazda to Manufacturer’s titles as an engineer for Tri-Point in World Challenge and as car chief for the No. 69 SpeedSource Mazda GT in the Rolex Series. Laivins and his staff at LRC, in partnership with CJ Wilson Racing, constructed the team’s two Mazda MX5 cars at their facility in Austin, TX.
“Our goal was to enter the series with two well-built, reliable and competitive cars and I believe we are on the right track,” said Laivins. “My staff deserves a lot of credit for all the hours spent building and testing these cars so we can arrive at Daytona ready to race. After the November test at Barber, we ran our first car in a couple of very long winter endurance races that allowed us to get a lot of feedback from the drivers and gather good durability data. We are also fortunate to have an experienced driver line-up to further the cars' development throughout the season."
