Chuyler1's new audio install log.

Not sure if PE has the large gauge connectors. Just search google for something like "8 gauge quick disconnects" and you'll find some electronics sites that sell them.

Well, you don't want the audio too close to the power...but for just a sub I guess it isn't too much trouble. You can buy RCA connectors at PE also btw and if you have a soldering iron you can make your own custom RCA cables.

So you found them huh! The XRs or ZRs?

ya, xr's...i listened to them and some polks and BA's the polks weren't bad for the price $170, the BA's were just ok, but the jl's just blew them both away, of course you have to pay for that quality...i was surprised how great they sounded for the size...impressed actually!

What were they running the speakers off? Was it a head unit or an external amp? Cause you know...the more power you throw at them, the better they're gonna sound!

Save your pennies Mark, we'll set you up with a nice system and I'll help you install it. You're second on the waiting list though. I've got a box full of gear that is going into my Dad's Avalanche first!

okay...ya they had it running through an external amp for sure...i couldn't distrort them befor hurting my ears!! ok, we;ll hold off for now

I've been working on my system here and there for the past week. I pulled out the entire amp rack so I could fix some rattles. Primarily, I had to completely dismantle the Clarion DSP because it was rattling like a tin can. I used some strip cauck to dampen the panels and put a little on each of the places where the circuit board contacts the metal. It was kinda just floating in there before so this helped with the noise quite a bit.

I also carpeted the trim panels. I haven't mounted them yet but I plan to do that soon. They will stay in place for a little while so I opened my hatch up for people to look at when I was at a show this weekend. It was your stereotypical import show with lots of VeeDubs and a few pimped out rides. There weren't many Hondas to my surprise and our little NEPOC Mazda group outnumbered many of the other classes even though there were only 3 of us and 5 Mazdas total.

Anyway, lots of people stopped to get a closer look at my work and it was a fun time.

Here are a few photos from the show...

FYI: NEPOC stands for New England Protege Club...my friend had a few extra so he gave me one to toss in my car. It isn't glued down or anything so don't worry...I haven't defaced the beautiful DLS amps.

Ok, wheeew....I was worried for a sec there :D Looks damn good bro. So, what's next in Chyuler's fabulous fabrication future :naughty:

* finishing details (securing trim panels, fixing crack in FG, securing silver trim piece with dbl-sided tape)
* sound deading (once I have more cash)
* custom dash bezel (tie in blue/silver theme, no HU trim piece, etc)
* custom kickpanels (tie in blue/silver theme, lower the drivers)
* if the kicks go well, custom door panels (blue/silver theme again).

For the kicks, I'm thinking of making a blue baffle that is sort of squared off. Then I will paint the DLS grill silver (removing the metal mesh) and mount it in the center.

For the doors, I really can't decide. I may end up following BigWoofer's idea by mounting the drivers directly to the panel and fiberglassing the entire lower panel. Then I'll paint it blue (his are yellow) and create a silver grill or paint the DLS grill silver. Hmm...I'm liking that idea. It's pretty show-y though....and I'd prolly have to do the rear door panels to match. If I did that, I'd prolly just throw some coaxes in there but not hook them up. No one will know the difference right?

I'm not sure how much of this I will get to this summer. I'm getting married in October so funds are short. But that's the plan anyway. I won't be selling this car for quite some time so I'm in no rush. I've got tunes now so I'm not about to do anything that will put my stereo out of commision for a long period of time.

No updates. Oleg and I spent some time a few weeks ago tuning things, but since then I have tweaked it some more by ear. The RTA is great for getting a visual read-out of your system, but my ears do a better job of pin-pointing problem areas. It just takes time I guess. Lately I have been discovering that my subs can be real boomy on properly recorded tracks while they sound just right on tracks that don't have as much bass. I can't seem to find a happy medium so I may have to perminently install the remote bass knob.

I've been working on my father's truck lately and we have a leak in our basement so that has been slowing my progress with my fabrication plans. I probably won't have time to work on my car until November. My friend is getting married in September and I am getting married in October and every weekend between now and then is booked with wedding plans and other stuff.
