Chips???

Hi there guys! I just bought a 2003 MP5 with sport shift. I just ordered an Ingen CAI and GReedy cat back with a low restriction cat. I'd like to add a chip to finish the first round of mods, and may go with a dry NOS system next. Any feed back on chips currently installed would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone out there know the good the bad and the ugly on nitrous systems?

i don't think there are any aftermarket ecu's out. the piggy back systems work till you hit WOT, then the stock ecu overrides it all. try turbo, much better than NOS cause you can never run out of boost.

true, true, but you can still break something inside if u use to much

either way...skip the chip...don't even think anyone makes one.

Do a site search for NOS...it ain't pretty ;)

Welcome and enjoy the site :D

I agree w/ alexlitov!
DONT' GO WITH DRY NOS!!!!

This is very true...W/ our protege 5's it's better to go w/ a wet system..you will see better HP Gains/TQ Gains!!

Also you can run a larger shot w/ a wet system!!

There really aren't any yet!! Not to mention those ecu's/chips will only advance timing...and w/ any Nitrous setup...BANG!!!! Detonation...You can read up more...by looking at some of the people w/ MP3's who have advanced timing over our pro5's!!

About tubo setup....Lots of $$$$ and lots of tuning required!!

Where as w/ my n20 kit...no tuning..and the kit only cost me $450 shipped to my door!!!(upyours)

Sure a stand alone would be great...but the amount of money you spend on a Stand Alone...Is going to be Imense...when comparing Horspower per dollar!!!

Better off w/ a N20 Kit!!

Best Hp per dollar out there under $1000!

Thanks for the feed back guys. I think I'm going to get anO2 sim and gut my cats and find a good piggy back like a Venom 400 for now. I've been lookin at the systems on Spool's site, and I think I'll just save for a month or two and get the Stage 2 turbo instead of going with NO2.

Actually its at WOT that a S-AFC or eManage would work its when the computer is taking the inputs from teh O2 at lower rpms to keep a stoch. A/F of 14.7:1 that you cannot mess with the settings when you go to WOT above 4000 rpm the signals can be modified and this is where we would need to modify them anyway.

So you are saying that a Super AFC will work on our cars? I have read otherwise around here, but that would be great if it were true. They are WAY cheaper than any stand alone unit.

E-bay has some of them for good prices. They don't have the complete tunability of a stand alone unit, but there is a lot that can be done with one. If they are compatible with our ecu, then I think it would be a great mod. Along with some cam gears and an hour on the dyno, some suprising #'s could be realized.

There are no "chips" for the Protege. The ECU is a sealed box, no way to really get into it to change a chip.

It is flash programmed.

Anything on e-bay claiming to make power by overiding the signal is BS...It will kill your gas mileage and screw your car up.

A piggy-back might work. No one has gotten one to work yet, except for Terry. A stand alone set up should, but will be very expensive and essentially cut the OBDII right out of the loop. Which will technically make the car not smog legal.

Just so you guys know.

The Apexi Super AFC is not just some resistor being sold by some dude on E-bay. It is a legitimate tuning item sold by a reputable tuning company. I have just heard that our computers will just override any adjustment made by something like this. I got excited when someone said they will work. It would be better than any chip out there because you can change the settings whenever and they can be done in small or large increments. And it would cost a lot less than getting a chip custom burned.:p
