Anyone know stuff about a parking ticket in Chicago. I just got one today and it is for the stupidest thing ever and I am going to appeal it. I was interning with the neurosurgery residents at Rush University today. I had to be there by about 5am, so I parked my car around 445 am. I decided to park on a side street, just because I knew I would be the whole day and being a poor student could not affoard the $15+ the parking garage wants to charge for parking. I have parked here in the past when I have visited before. I actually parked between two cars that were there before I arrived. As I came back to my car around 600 pm, I noticed I had a ticket on my window charging my $50 for parking during "street cleaning/special event". I then looked around and there was a small sign posted on a street light a distance from my car, that I know was not there when I arrived at 445 am. It said no parking from 9am-3pm. So I am guessing that someone put the sign up aftern I arrived assuming that I knew, but I did not. I am going to fight this, but I knew the City of Chicago can be rough to win against. I still don't plan to pay the $50 for this stupid ticket, so if I loose I will just skip paying for it. I am just curious what is the worse thing that can happen to me. I live in the suburbs and rarely go into Chicago. I also am at school in Michigan for 10 months out of the year and will be heading to Cali to live early next summer. So there won't be any real chances for them to boot my car in Chicago. Can I still get screwed over by the State Police or local if something ever happend?? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the City of Chicago my friend. That's why if I do not have to I won't drive through there. And yes good luck fighting that one in court. Sorry.

I'd rather live in the City vs. *any* suburb - I'll take the problems and everything too....

That said, you'll have a hard time proving that you were parked prior to the posting going up. I would just fight it and see how that goes - you may luck out and have it thrown out. I'd suggest some quick digital photos just in case.

I believe you need to be *really* in bad shape parking ticket wise to get booted. I don't remember off hand what the limit is, but you should be good if this is your first parking violation.

Good luck.

Hey Dimitrious I didn't mean it like that man. I meant not with my personal vehicle especially now that I want to get it tinted. (I don't know about taking all the problems with the city. I can tell you there are a lot of problems and in terms of tickets I don't enjoy the feeling of giving cops/city my hard earned money). I have friends who live there and my lil bro lives down there. You and I know that Chicago cops are strict especially when it involves non-moving violations. And yes most are very tough to fight in court but it does not mean you can't. Peace Dimitrious and good luck tranzformer with the ticket.

san, no worries. I didn't take "the wrong way". I live within the City lines, so I know what you're talking about (about cops and violations, etc).

yeah, and I'd fight it; I've fought $50 tickets before when it meant that I'd actually lose money just by taking a day off from work....fight for principal...

Just FYI- not only do you have to worry about the boot in Chicago, they will also suspend your D/L after a certain dollar amount. Not sure of the amount, but just something else to think about if you don't take care of it.

jk13 you coming to the bbq? I think we would all like to see you there if possible. Maybe point out everything illegal on all of our cars there. Just messing.
