check out my "new" wheels....

i love my ms3, but one day of driving school and my front tires were about done. had to get some kuhmo v710's to play with. but i am not racing scca or anything just having fun driving, so i don;t want to pay for 18" autox rubber, wheels, etc. 16" v710;s are about $100 less each than 18's. so the search for some inexpensive 16's started...

After reading lots of the posts here and looking online for a while, calling several wheel shops, scouring ebay, and even trying out some mercedes wheels (right offset, would have fit fine, but the hub flange is way too thick and the studs came no where near out far enough to get a nut on them...) i tried some old toyota supra wheels a friend was getting rid of - and they fit fairly well. maybe a tad more offset would have been nice, i had to roll the fender a little to get the 225s to not rub the rear. some work with the grinder, and a can of black engine paint and they don't look that bad. i think maybe nicer than the stock wheels... supposedly these wheels are in the junkyard for $25/ea. maybe a set powder coated black would make a nice set of street wheels...

and i can say with rubber, this car can run with the big boys... and it is a lot of fun! i have to think on an autox course the tires have to buy a lot more time than any engine upgrades would. maybe stiffer front shocks and more rear brake bias would help next. then some more ponies would be nice... but i digress... on to the photos!

tread?

the v710's are actually brand new, full tread - you can actually still see the factory markings on the surface. these are autocross "dot" tires, just two grooves towards the inside of the tire. i only run them at the track. but i know some guys with v700's that drive them 70+ miles to the track. those are more of a road race compound, i wouldn't try that with the 710s as they are very soft rubber.

HA!

If you're trying to find "tread" on a V710, you're looking in the entirely WRONG place.

lol.

They're only a safety hazard on wet pavement, and I'm quite sure the OP has not intention of running these tires on anything but a dry autocross/race course.

EDIT: Crap. Just realized I bumped a year-old thread. Boy is my face red...
