check engine light

Just wondering of anyone else has had this problem.. I have a mazda 3 with a sport package. For christmas my boyfriend gave me a cold air intake to get better milage. He installed it about 2 months ago. Ever since then when I floor my car, like getting on the interstate (going from like 0 to say 60 or so) the check engine light comes on. When I took it to the mazda dealership, they checked it out, and said they really couldn't touch it b/c we had added a part but they saw a broken PCV valve, so we ordered one. 1st they sold us the wrong part, then we realized that all we did was leave off a clip to that pipe. but after cliping it the light still comes on. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

i would imagine since it only comes on when you floor it (engine moves) that the MAFsensor wires are to tight, your boyfriend didn't do his homework (LOL) and the wires that go to the maf housing are probably pulled to tight, you need to either pull the wire loom away from the battery box or cut a small slit in the loom to free up some space to the maf now that its being pulled tighter... as long as you didn't pull any wires out you should be all set.

Here is a pic of my intake, the wires aren't tight. The intake was designed so that the MAF is in about the same place as it would be on the stock intake. Here are a couple pics. I think I'm going to try to get it to cause the CEL to come on again and take it in to get the code read.

hey whats up well i think i know whay u check engine light goes on i got a mp5 and when i got a cold air intake and i installed it and told it for a test drive the light turned on and basiclly ur air sesor thinks there is something bad going on cause ur car is getting more air then its supose to but all u need to do is reset the computer and u can do that by disconnect the negitave side of the battery for about 5 mins give it time and that should sould the light and thats all i know lol

unclip those 2 white clips to the battery box. When you shift or when you WOT (throttle in hard, wide-open-throttle), you engine bucks about 3-4 inches, so it could sever the MAF sensor wires. Mine did while I had my AEM. Cost me almost $400 for parts and labor. Live from other people's mistakes ;)

yeah like i said its more when the engine moves... man i love that awr mount really plants the power to the road!

Thanks for the replies, I unhooked the negative battery terminal and am going to leave it off for 30 min then I also unhooked those clips so the wire is more free to move. I'll let everyone know my findings. Thanks again.

Well, after resetting the ECU my cell went off. Took it for a 20 min test drive and all is perfect so far. Again, if anything changes I'll let ya know. This board has been a great help.

Wow, you don't know much...and even what you think you know is wrong.

That's uncalled for. If you can't post without the attitude, then don't post.

Hey guys.

I am new to this forum, i found because i had this specific problem. I just put in a short ram cold air in Mazda 3, and it seemed to be ok. Strangely enough after about a week of driving with it the CEL came on. I took your advice of taking off the battey, and it worked like a charm!

Thanks! Ill definetly be checking out this forum more often.
