charging over MSRP?

I just got off the phone with my dealer and he said that there was some mention at the Street Heat Mazdaspeed school or whatever, about charging over MSRP. Mazda USA does not want dealers to do this and although they are not going to revoke mazdaspeed franchises or anything to the dealers that do, mazda will take such over charging into consideration when the next wave of MSPs is distributed, and when future Mazdaspeed vehicles are released.

This is all according to my dealer.

I asked if there was a number he knew of at MAZDAusa that we could all call to report such dealerships and he said he didnt know of one but that he would look into it (hell this could mean he gets twice as many as anyone else in the region when the next ones come out). As soon as i hear from him, if I hear from him, ill post the # on here. I had called mazdausa once before, some irvine # i got off the top of a release that only dealers were sent but the lady I spoke with didnt know anything about charging over and whether or not it was ok and if it wasnt who i could talk to about it.......so hopefully, ill get a number of someone who cares from my dealer and we can be heard!!

Please let us know the numbers! I have 3 dealers to report!

*Edit* I called 1-800-222-5500 and they have an option for the Mazdaspeed. I talked to someone and they said, they are expecting dealerships to mark up a little because of demand. They said it is a dealer's poragative (sp), but Mazda is recomending they don't. I am also asking about accessories they are offering for the speed.

yeah, i will definetly let mazda know about some punk ass dealierships that tried to charge me over MSRP *cough* bill jacobs mazda in joliet, IL *cough*

See that's strange...it could be that there are different rules in Canada or something. When I bought my car, at first the guy tried to ask for 26,500 instead of the approx 24,500 MSRP....I informed him about MSRP and he was making all these excuses.

I called Mazda Canada and asked them if the dealerships were allowed to do that and they said absolutely not and they'd be in serious trouble if they were caught doing so. I later sorted it all out after switching dealers. So it's either changed or just different here in Canada.

I was under the impression that charging over MSRP in canada was illegal........

Also with regards to mazdaspeed perf parts to further the performance of the MSP, like bigger exhaust im pretty certain they will offer, my dealer told me not to expect those parts in dealerships before january.........I guess that they want to wait and see how the cars go, if there are any problems with them and whatnot, and make sure all the franchising and stuff is sorted out......I can understand this delayed release of the parts.....mazda probably wants to wait until there are a bunch of MSPs outon the road IE a bunch of potential buyers, before they start selling stuff.......

Well it's not out and out illegal, but it is against at least Mazda Canada's policy. I was told at the time tho by the person I was in contact with to make sure that nothing was done to the car by the dealers themselves. Some dealers find ways around the MSRP in a sneaky way. They'll do something like put on tinting, put in a sunroof etc. Then the car is no longer considered a stock new car and Mazda Canada has no control and the dealer can charge 4 grand extra for window tint if they want to. Sneaky and underhanded...gee who would expect that from a dealer right?
