Changing Rotors

Has anyone tried to change the front rotors? I'm having a hard time getting the two phillips screws off to loosen the rotors. I almost stripped one of them. I put WD-40 to try to loose them but it has not worked.

Any suggestions?

Your screwed...Lol. No really they suck. I just did my brakes this weekend and i broke off 2 apex heads in in 2 screws...then i had to ball file the heads down and beat on it tell them came loose. So...what i recommend is drilling them out from the start. I drilled most of them out BEFORE i got a bit stuck and they came right out. Just drill the head off then the shank will come out after the rotor is off. Good luck!

Thanks AWDRACER6, I got advice from a friend that had worked with the same type of rotors on a different car and told me to use a bit-driver, the one you hammer to loosen screws, and it worked. The screw heads were a bit messed up when I got done with them but they came out, also I used Liquid Wrench to help get them loose.

Ya i used that impac thing also but that is what i was using when the bits broke off. It worked good on the first couple....Glad you got em out!

You have to use an impact driver.. And you have to hit it REAL hard!! They sell em at sears for like $20.. Well worth it!! To do your own brakes..

yup. impact driver is the perfect tool for this. but when that doesnt work. just drill out the heads of the screws. then the rotor pops right off. and dont worry about ruining the screws. there used for the assembly line. there is no real use to them now.

really?? I went out and bought new screws.. because I had damaged them on removal.. I put them back on just not super tight.. i had heard that before... but was not sure about just hanging them..

yea. its so when the car is going down the assembly line, the rotor's dont fall off before the rest of the brakes are added. other then that, they serve no purpose. but its not like it hurts anything leaving them on either.
