Changed the Mazda CX-9 cabin air filter at 35k, boy was it dirty!

Ordered from Rock Auto, less than $10.00 shipped. Less than 1 minute to remove old and install new!

Dealer wanted me to pay them 69.00 installed. What a joke.

Just did mine at the 12,000 mile mark with the car 10 months old. I like to change these on my cars at the 12,000 mile or 1 year mark, which ever comes first. A cheap and quick job that saves about $60+ compared to dealer price. My 09 TL is just as easy and the dealer wants $80 for the job. Spent $15 and it took me 1 minute. Same rule applies for the engine air filter.

open glove box, remove access panel (2 tabs at top) and then unclip the white plastic air filter housing cover (unclip on left side)

no tools required, just hands.

Thanks for the info guys, I just changed mine too. Mileage is just over 12,000, so it wan't bad but it was a year old. While I was at it, I changed the Prius' which was 2 years old, and it was really ready.

How did you get one for $10 shipped. I have actually never replaced ours and I have almost 43k on the clock. Just went to their site and shipping itself almost runs $8.00. Was there a free shipping code? I am sure I need to change mine. I at least use a K&N for the motor and clean and re-oil that annually.

www.rockauto.com select mazda cx-9 (applicable year), then "Heat & Air Conditioning" then "Cabin Air Filter" $4.47 plus shipping. $9.52 shipped for priority mail. Done, easy. I just checked it, and that is shipped to my zipcode. Perhaps it is more to ship to your zip? but I doubt it.

I'm happy to see that you fellas found out how simple this little task is and how few tokens are required when you shop online for the filter. This has to be one of the cheapest things you can do to your car and easy too.

and you can stick a dryer sheet in there while your at it if you want the 9 to smell laundry fresh.

I change the Cabin filter of my CX9 today, I ordered the OEM part from MazdaParts.org and after seeing the original filter and the OEM replacement I was disapointed, My wife's VW have a cabin filter that is definitively better, looks like an EPA Filter. The Mazda OEM, in the other hand, it barely looks like Foam filter. So, I am wondering if anyone can give me a hint about if there is another replacement that may be slightly better, if any. I found the following manufacturers and part numbers:

BALDWIN....... PA4365
FORD.......... 7T4Z-19N619-B
HASTINGS...... AF1345
MAZDA......... L206-61-P11
MAZDA......... L2Y6-61-P11
MOTORCRAFT.... FP-65
PUROLATOR..... C25876
WIX........... 24065

PS. do you know which is teh difference among thisu 2 OEM filters:

MAZDA......... L206-61-P11
MAZDA......... L2Y6-61-P11

The so-called "better one" has fine charcoal particles charged on the filter to absorb bad smell.
(it looks a bit greyish or blackish)
The one for my old BMW cost about $40 each, and there were two of them.

Money does not buy happness, but it surely buys you luxury and convenience.

I just changed mine after 3 years. It was a mess too. Watch out that the leaves don't drop off the filter into the fan when you are pulling it out. They make an annoying sound and are hard to clean out. Ask me how I know....

My dealership wanted $95 to replace this filter! What's even worse they called me after I dropped it off for the 30K service to tell me I should change it. I said, Did you look at it? The guy said yes. I then went ballistic and told him I just changed it a week ago. The advisor then was like, oh um I'll go look at it myself. Calls back and says, yes it's clean we got confused with another car...LOL, liar.

Actually, the dirty trick works 99.9% of the times.... other than this time.
