Change your cabin air filter

Quick and easy...

Watched the video "Bagger 07" posted. Talk about it being quick and easy. Had both a 2007 and 2008 Saturn Vue. Now that was a long and involved process to change them.

You can't simply buy a replacement filter at a Mazda dealership from the parts dept?? What about UAP (Canada)??

Just changed my cabin filter tonight. Almost 3 years and 20K miles it was filthy.

Your Fuelly profile is eerily similar to mine (in terms of start date, number of fill-ups and miles traveled). We also both have 2013 white CX-5's and both recently changed our cabin air filter for the first time. What state are you in?

NC. My CX-5 is 2WD GT, you've got great MPG for AWD. Do you also have a Ford Taurus Station Wagon....that would be eerie. :)

Can someone please advise where one can buy a replacement cabin air filter?? Can you simply buy it from the dealership's parts department (or will they refuse to sell it so that they are the only ones who can get it and charge you an arm and a leg to install it)?? I'm in Canada, so I was thinking NAPA but I didn't see it listed on their website. My CX-5 is just over 18 months old, so I figure it's time to replace it. Anyone??

You could order one from the sponsor above or any dealer parts dep should be glad to sell you one.

If you can master these 2 skill sets then you can change a Mazda cabin filter.

1. Remove a drawer from a dresser.

2. Remove/replace the filter on a vacuum.

If you cannot master these skill sets then pay the $80+ at the dealership to have them do it.

That sounds so funny... but there is frequently more to consider. Changing the cabin filter on my Mazda 3 could also be reduced to something that simple except you have to also be a contortionist to twist yourself into the tiny space under the dash and then wiggle your hands/arms in just the right direction to get on the screws holding in the filter. My back hurt for two days from the twisting to do that.

Luckily, you don't have to be a contortionist for the CX-5 so it really IS as easy as it sounds.

I was sitting in the back seat of my friends mazda 3 last weekend and he had a receipt from a local dealer for 157 dollars on the seat next to me. A little while later someone else in the car asked him about the supposed AC smell that he had recently gotten fixed. It turns out the dealer charged him 157 dollars to change the cabin air filter which had never been changed in the ~3+ years of owning the car and it had started to smell really bad when using the AC. 157 dollars!

I called 2 local dealerships today and was quoted $41 (plus tax) for the cabin air filter. I found that a bit expensive as you can buy them on Ebay for half of that (though they want an arm and a leg for shipping to Canada so it works out to the same). I'll pick one up from the dealer and install it myself. Thx much for the info (and videos) in this thread!! Saving money is always a good thing.

Dude just rinse it and throw it in the wash. Unless you have bad allergies you probably won't notice a difference and your cabin will smell like fresh linen.

Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada.
