CEL P0401 - EGR issues

well same thing happened with me. I got it cleared and it came back. then it went away and came back again.

i think you are going to have to replace ur egr valve

Changed the title so it wasn't so ambigious.

For those of you posting questions about a specific topic, don't hesitate to put that in the title. It works wonders for everyone.(nana)

I get the same code from time to time. I clear it and it comes back every few months. My guess is that it is not the EGR valve itself but the tube that connects to the intake manifold...

OR....

If the EGR and tube are clear, it could be a ECM calibration issue...I thought a saw something about this and there was an ECM update to fix it.

Either way, there is not a well documented fix for this and there also is not a well documented generic EGR removal for the MS. If you attempt to remove and clean, document your process and take lots of pics. You will need to remove the innercooler, the battery, battery tray, and intake parts all the way up to the turbo to get good access to the EGR valve. There is also a coolant line that comes off the bottom of the EGR valve, so you might need to drain the coolant as well.

how likely is a hairline crack in my manifold the cause of the code? or is def the egr being clogged?

thanks,
