CEL - dealer says f you

Yeah see Brian, the fun thing about the act you just mentioned is that most people in their right minds wont go to court and spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to get a simple warranty issure fixed for free. Most of the time people will b**** at the dealer, go talk to a lawyer, realize how BLOODY expensive a court case is against a major corporation based on something that is not technically a law, and they go crawling back to their dealership with tail betwixt their legs. Thankfully, I've always encountered reasonable service managers, so they've overlooked my mods. Now that I have a full exhaust they probably wont be so forgiving, but when I had the CAI and short shifter they were decent to me (still jerks, but they did the work)

Point is, if they say no, take off the mod and go to a different dealer to get it fixed.

you never go to court.. it goes to an arbitrator they then take all the facts and make a decision...

^^..HAHAHAH, yeah I don't know what I'm talking about...ahahaa.. When you mod your car and go in for warranty work and they tell you "no" make sure you throw that in their face and see how far it gets you. It's not a law, it's an act.

p.s. with only 34 posts you couldn't possibly know anything about me but I'm a former ase mechanic for 2 seperate dealerships and I've also sued Mazda northa american over warranty work denial. I would tend to think I know a little more about the subject than you.

I am sure you were and ASE mech and you have sued Mazda NA.
I am also sure if the subject of space travel was to arise you would also be able to tell us about your job at NASA polishing the windows of the shuttle.

The best thing about a know-it-all is they are usually easily offended and flustered these two things inluding the fact that they dont know it all makes for great comedy... Keep it up! (ugh)

never worked at Nasa but my brother does ballistic missle defense for this country through Lockheed Martin right across from the NASA training camp in AL here....close enough?

Gaining knowledge through personal experience does not make one a "know-it-all." What experience do you have with Matty P that would make you "know" anything about him?

back on topic. In order to deny warranty work the dealership has to prove that the SRI is causing the car to run rich. To make it easier, I would put the stock intake on and take it to a different dealership.

kinda.

anywho. was driving home from school and my cel came on. :( i took it to the dealer the next morning. it took them 2 hours to tell me that my car was idling too rich and this was because of my aem cai. i've had the intake on for 7500 miles and never had a problem til now... they said i could leave the car with them for the weekend and the mechanic *might* be able to get the cel to stay off but it wouldnt be covered under warranty and i would have to pay. anybody else here had this problem? i hate driving around with the cel on.

I had this same problem with my 3 but it went away. The only explination that I could come to was that my gas cap had not been put back on properly and after I filled up with fuel again and made sure the cap was on snug the cel went away within the next day or two.

My cel came on once, so I looked through the manual to see all the reasons it might, it said gas cap, so I retightened the cap and it has not done it since and I have had cai on for quite a while now.

they said there were no negative effects of driving the car like this except taht it would use more gas. is this true?

If this is the same dealer that told you adding a CAI (which pulls in more, colder air) made you run rich (meaning you are not getting enough air into the fuel mixture) they obviously don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Take your car to Autozone and have the CEL code scanned for free. Then come on here and someone will tell you what the code means if the guys at Autozone can't figure it out.

If you used a K&N style filter, the oil can sometimes get on the MAF wire and cause all sorts of problems. Do NOT under any curcumstances actually touch the wire, but you can spray some electrical contact cleaner on it to clean the oil off. Happened to me when I made my own short ram for my P5. My car is still under warranty and I always just fix it myself. I've never expected any sort of warranty coverage for anything mechanical from Mazda. They did replace my wheels though...

well... i did take it to an autozone but their thing wasnt working on my car for some reason. also the CEL went away... it only seems to drive funny when the CEL is on tho. weird.
