ok so i just posted a thread about on questions about a cbe... someone offered to build me on for 300 bucks. he stated before hand that two in a half inches was plenty room for air to get out and he could straight pipe the resonators and add a high flow pipe for some gain. is it worth it to do the cbe or would the piping/high flow cat be enough?

I heard that our CBE is good enough stock...its the downpipe & midpipe thats the real issue.
I'm leaving my CBE stock...But I'll be getting the CorkSport DP & MP(hippy)

I upgraded my DP which included the midpipe first...I had big power gains...upgraded a few more things; TMIC, BOV, etc...and my CBE was the very last mod.

I couldn't feel a significant increase in power, but my AFR and fuel pressure suffered quite a bit. Until my CBE upgrade, my fuel was plenty and AFRs were right on target. Seeing how much of a strain the CBE put on my fuel delivery, I would say that the CBE is a power mod. Probably not much of a power mod with the stock DP and MP, but as a whole; YES!!

In addition, the sound of the upgraded CBE was totally worth the money...popping and burbling exhaust is AWESOME!!!!

Definitely worth it in my book.

Though, you really need 3" or more in ID; stock is 2.4"...

have ur resonators removed from ur stock cb if u dont mind tearing up the stock system. best gains for the buck...under 100 u can have them cutout and replaced with straight pipe. u can also gut ur second cat for free...(cool)(birthday)

The answer is, "it depends." If you have no other exhaust mods and want power from it, then it is a monumental waste of money that could be spent on mods that will net you some real power. If you have other exhaust mods, for example, aftermarket downpipe or racepipe, then it is almost a necessity if you want to get the most out of the other mods.
The sequence AXRacer did his exhaust mods, based on all the reading of other peoples' experiences I've done, is the right order.

No this car needs only a RP,TP,the exhaust is already perfectly tuned and harmonized and nice sound and power comes from DP and RP and Turbo manifold.I have a 4 cpmponent mod and the 3rd and 4th gear pulls are noticeably much harder. However, from my oppinion you can do without the CAI,it is not much of a power source as i have felt the INJEN pipe after an hour driving and it is fairly hottish, therefore i can`t see too much cold air coming from there on a hot day.Notice that the stock intake is completely shielded from the engine bay heat and is a poor conducter of heat, where as a metal object loves heat, although it dissipitates heat well. The goal of the cai pipe would be better served as to keep heat out rather than the pipe triying to dissipitate it.Exhaust wrap around the pipe might be a good idea i will look into it,since the wrap is a good shield and poor conducter. The best cooling solution would be a CF hood with a beautifully designed hood that is perfectly located over the intercooler area which will cool the bay area in general.I obviously would prefer a body colour CF hood. You can not spoil the conformity and the flow of the stock appearance.

lol @ saying a cold air intake isn't a power source after people have posted dyno charts with mad power from this one modification.

as far as the exhaust goes, I'd say start with the mid-pipe, as it is easy and cheap to buy and go from there. cat back if you want to make more noise!

aight sweet thnx u guys ive decided to straight pipe the resonators witha high flow thingy majiger.. i dont think ill doa down pipe for a while till im outa high school i would but to many people comlain about the smokin turbo problem and thats what causes it isnt it?

that's a tricky question. you'll get 100 different people in here claiming they know exactly why it's happening though, that's for sure. bottom line: stock exhaust no smoking, upgraded parts, sometimes smoking, sometimes not...
