"Carpet" already worn 3000 miles.

I'll have to look at the carpet...I did notice the black piano-like finish on the steering wheel is not shiney at all anymore...just black plastic looking now. :(

AT LAST!... A complaint I can share in! Our carpet is also showing wear after only 5300 miles. Ahhh... I belong now. (group)

O.K. So today, the clan was over for the big Holiday Feast. A few minutes ago they all left and I was helping load goodies into the back of my oldest daughter's Trailblazer. Now it's a nice enough vehicle, but nothing to excite me, right?

BUT... this afternoon I noticed that the carpet is real CARPET. About 1/2 thick, tight weave, etc. It's a Chevy for goodness sake, with 10X better carpet than the "7". Kinda pisses me off , though I'm still in love with the CX-7 (hi)!

That is very strange... the only way it would dull that easily is if you were constantly buffing it with an abrasive cloth (ie: not 100% american cotton, or 100% korean microfibre)

Haven't buffed it at all actually. I haven't wanted to touch it until I can figure out what I can buff it with to bring the gloss back that won't scratch it.

Checked the carpet and its worn pretty good. The carpet in my '96 Explorer w/ 180k on it looked better than this when I sold it. :(

Use some regular armor all, and it will bring the gloss back.

And yeah wow cheap carpeting, the carpet in the 6 is thicker, I replaced the mats with the OEM all weather mats, much better.

28k here and carpet is fine. But I do have the all-weather mats in as well.

I guess now people can stop talking s*** about the protege's interior being "cheap"... sure the protege's interior is simplistic which is typical of a 90's japanese car and looks "cheap" because it doesn't look substantial or stylish like the new mazdas but at least the materials are good! the carpet in the protege is easily twice as thick as the 3's!

No, it's still cheap.(braindead

Did Mazda redesign this area for 2008? I have an '08 CX-7 and the floor mat covers where my heel goes. There is carpet directly behind the gas pedal but not below it, and I can't touch any part of the carpet without radically bending my foot.

Where exactly is the carpet that is wearing out?

Hmmm...the floor mat in my CX-7 covers that area. The only area not covered by the mat is a small area directly behind the gas pedal, which I can't touch with my foot. Sounds like the '08 model may be different in this area.

Was at dealer yesterday. They are replacing the carpet(on order). Tech agreed it shouldnt wear that quickly, and agreed the carpet they are using in the CX7 is lower in quality. Interesting thing was I had an 06' Mazda 6 as a loaner and the carpet is much thicker.
Only thing that sucks is they have to take out quite a bit of the interior to replace it including the seats.

my carpet is still in great condition w/ no wear or tear. i drive every day for about a year and 2 months. all weather mats really does its job!!

Just an update. Carpet was replaced by dealer. They did a great job. The carpet quality is unchanged from the original. I will be putting a piece of Felt where the high wear area is. So get it replaced if you can.

Sounds like a custom carpet might be needed down the road from upholsterer shop. The carpet looks more like felt my 7 year old plays with in art class.

I am a minority in the sense that my vehicle shipped with BOTH; the carpet floor-mats AND the rubber all-weather floor-mats. I have used BOTH since day one. The fabric ones are under the rubber ones.

I agree that this poor-quality, felt-ish excuse for a carpet is REALLY sub standard and is right there next to the cheap interior components and materials in the rest of the cabin.

I don't hate my CX-7... I am probably about 65%-70% satisfied with it, but I DO miss the luxury creature comforts of my previous vehicles. Quality materials, power & memory for seats, mirrors, pedals, stereo settings, etc... I am really missing the "finer details" that could-have (should-have) been available to buyers that wanted a higher quality experience.

Maybe a Luxury Touring model with thick carpet, soft leather seats, wood trim, suede accents, higher-quality vinyl for dash & door panels, Power seats on both sides, Memory settings, dual-zone climate control, etc...

*sigh* - Unfortunately... it's not the case.
