Carbon Fiber hood

Ya it was nice just not my style i guess. Maybe it was just the pictures. I might even go wingless soon Wagonbacker9, your car look nice!! I love the look of wingless

I too am a fan of wingless. A suggestion: since you're going to be looking at a bunch of body work to weld up the wing mounting holes anyways, go with a CF trunklid too, and top it off with a black vinyl wrap for the roof.

I almost went that route, but chickened out. lol

If your motivation is to lose weight, the ~20 lbs you lose with a CF hood doesn't really do anything... Much more of a cosmetic thing, IMO. On that note I have a CF hood, so... I'm not hating, lol.

I can't wait to lose the weight when I finish my hood... 20lbs is alot.

Here's a crappy photoshop of the carbon fiber hood. I'm still trying to perfect the carbon fiber look. If you post in the photoshop request thread, someone will be able to do a better job.

metallic, I said "nothing against you", and I meant it. I do not believe you would scam someone here, I really don't... There was no 'claim'. the rules are the rules, thats all.

so what you're saying is, you are 1) upset that you feel XC is getting special treatment and 2) should be given special treatment yourself. I believe I can safely speak for the mod team when I say, we try to apply the rules equally and fairly across the board. The people who get upset, are typically the ones who either don't respect the rules, don't respect the mods (personally I mean), or feel they deserve special treatment for one reason or another.

crazycaker did not put up a link or a price... so (yes, this is semantic) technically its not an advertised sale. Regardless, I do not have power to moderate posts in this section, so I am unable to do anything about that, a section mod will have to address that. I'd also like to point out that you have heavily bent the rules in the past and received lienency...

qft. Lose twenty lb's yourself. Take out a seat if you're really all about creating a gutted race car. Think about that twenty pounds and how many seconds it will shave off your 1/4 miles time - none. Save the hundreds and hundreds it will cost you for a CF hood and instead buy something for your engine or put it towards a new turbo etc.

Wagonbacker9, she did nothing wrong, so cool down some, she even said she will make photos if needed.... Hell I do the SAME THING, many people do.... If there wasnt a proper picture and someone buys... they should know the rules cause its only posted EVERYWHERE.

But to the OP Get a carbon hood man from XC.. they are GREAT HOODS.

But CrazyCaker, try not to... um... advertise like that. We all know what your trying to do... get a sale.. HAHA which dont worry next year ill buy a hood from you, after I get a block haha. But really... I dont see a problum because you could just link to Protegegarage site who sells your hood! LOL! so IDK about this stuff haha.

In addition, I like how the CF vented hoods help with releasing the engine bay heat. Mine was wide open, and you could actually see the heat coming out of the vents.. so even if it doesn't help with the weight that much, compare the heat with the stock hood vs. the CF hood.

WHen I have the panel under my Evo Style hood from VIS off... it does have alot of Heat. :D looks cool at the right angle.

Lol, my bad. Since I'm an active member myself it's hard not to throw out plugs when I come across these type of threads.

edit: btw, I didn't really advertise at all, if you read what I posted. I simply stated that I still make them and offer them. I didn't even provide a link to anything. ;)

Like members really need a link to send you a PM. What you posted is an advertisement.

are any vendors still selling? my vis hood looks like crap now - all dried up and cracked after 3 years or so... how is everyone elses holding up? Are you supposed to put gel coats over your CF hood to protect it? how do you prevent it from looking dry, slightly yellow, cracking?

tia.

If appearance matters, just have the hood painted to match the body. All the (very, very slight) benefits of the weight reduction, without drawing the attention to your car.

If you have a carbon hood that has faded and yellowed, take it to a body shop. They will sand it down and lay on a fresh coat of clear coat. When you get it back, keep it waxed at least every once in awhile to keep it looking fresh.
