Car stalled at the light...EGR related?

This morning my car stalled after standing at a traffic light for a few minutes.
CEL came on, I restarted it and it was fine. No CEL.

Few weeks ago I have replaced the following:
-ignition coils
-battery
-spark plugs
-air filter
-PCV valve

It also has a new air intake rubber house, post air filter.

I noticed a small ticking/clicking around the area of throttle body.

Is it my EGR valve acting up?

Is it hard to remove?

Should it be cleaned or replaced?

Thanks

the ticking is the the thing with two vacume hoses and and electrical connector that sits on top of the airtube on a small post.

I've cleaned my EGR & IAC valve and it has lasted just as long as it did to begin with so I don't consider it a temporary fix. It will last until the pig rich oem tune fouls it with enough carbon to clog it up again...regardless of which egr you have. It's just a necessary maintenance thing on these cars IMO. I run a catch can on the PCV to keep some oil out of the intake to slow this down.

The biggest problem with those valves isn't carbon fouling, it's rust in the actuator. They both contribute to a bad idle but if the car is stalling I'm guessing it's not just carbon buildup :(

MAF was replaced last year.

if its not the EGR, what else could it be?

I drove it all day today, and it has yet to stall again...

if it the EGR i recommend replacing, especially if you plan to keep the car for longer. but if you are going to sell soon... then save the 100 bucks and just clean it.

and if you replace, be sure to buy the canadian ERG and avoid any future problem, they are about the same price

The dirty egr does cause the car to randomly stall, mostly stopped at light with car in gear. I don't see how this Canadian egr can do anything to avoid carbon fouling that the original ones can't. Carbon buildup is carbon buildup. I have had no rust issues with my 8 yr old original one and only had to clean it once at about 40k or so. Am at 88k now so it may be getting time to clean it again but until it idles weird or starts doing the random stall at idle thing then it'll get no attention.

Many protege had idle issues when they were produced, mazda solve the problem by redesigning the egr valve. yes carbon builup is carbon buildup, but the way and rate that our protege accumulates this carbon is considered a design flaw from mazda. this is almost unheard of in many newer vehicles. as most of the newer vehicle have egr valve similar in design to the canadian egr made for the protege in later years.

yata yata Canadian EGR yata........have read all that way back. Part of the design flaw is what causes the carbon buildup to begin with - rich ass tune. As far as rust, haven't experienced it. Bravo for making something in different market that should have been TSB'd if this is such a widespread common thing. Gimme a free one. Not gonna shell out the coin for something that has been an issue 1 time in 8 yrs and was cleanable and reuseable. I've been on here long enough to have read all the educational posts from theman concerning these cars and also am versed in the usage of search but thanks for the links.
