im a noob at shopping for cars and i need help. im thinking of a 2003.5msp, a SpecV or a 00-01 rs 2.5. i just need some comments or a comparison between those cars. thanks

Get behind the wheel and test-drive all of the cars you're considering. You're the one that has to like it.

^exactly.

all of the listed cars have ups and downs. it is up to you to decide.

i was looking at the 2k3 jetta 1.8t, mini cooper s, and the sentra spec v before i bought my msp.

i chose the msp cause it had a lot in it for the money it cost me.

good luck with the hunt

wow that is suprisingly my exact same list i had for cars i was shopping for 2 weeks ago...yes i went with the MSP

Spec-V - Fast car for the price, i love the seats but it was the most painful car i have ever attempted to get into...if you're above 6'4 like me you may have trouble getting your leg under the stearing wheel. I never bothered trying to drive it due to that one.

2.5 - Great looking car w/ all wheel drive. I didn't go with that one because I would have never been satisfied when other people are driving the WRX and I just got my 2.5. Cool car tho, with even a few factory mods thats a nice car

MSP - MMM, I love it in every way possible these first two weeks. I have friends that drive 1.8T Passats, GTI, Impreza, GSX and they all drool when I give them the oppurtunity behind my wheel. I love it, enough said

Oh yeah, I wish you good luck with your hunt too. Oh yeha, sorry if people don't agree with any of those...just my opinions on the cars...

thanks guys, the srt has a little too much power for me..i need a not to powerful day to day car. so far i test drove my friends srt, and the Spec-V, and after driving the srt the specV feels like a geo metro compared to it. ill probably test drive the msp tomorrow.

IMO, forget the Spec V. The MSP is a great car, but the GC8 2.5RS is nice too. You're either looking at FWD/turbo/new or AWD/NA/used.

Youll regret not getting a turbo, trust me. Youll get the RS...and a few weeks later will start looking for a turbo kit, same goes for the Spec.

wow, i did some research and found out some prices of 02-04 wrx's(pretty expensive). so now i shall go test drive some rex's (drive)

Yeah man, WRX's are $$$ unless you get a used one. I was in the same boat as you last december and went with my MSP for a lot of reasons. I test drove an SRT4, Spec V, Lancer RALLIART, and 2.5 RS. Basically, the 2.5 RS was the weakest of the bunch in everyway. It cost as much as the SRT4 but was WAAAY slower. The SPec V was nice and torquey and I liked the idea of Nismo parts and all but the appearance was just way too homely for me personally. The Ralliart was pretty quick and had awesome suspension but they are kind of ugly and I would always be in the Evo's shadow (same w/ a 2.5rs in the WRX/STi's). The SRT4 was cool because it was very fast and very torquey but it looks like a damn Neon, hell, it is a damn Neon and everybody and their brother has one in my town. Plus, I just have a thing for imports. I was sold on the Mazdaspeed Protege the minute I saw it in person. Last one on the lot, in the center of the showroom only 50 miles on it and they were offering the $2,500 rebate. As soon as I got behind the wheel it was over, absolutly a blast to drive, perfect suspension, great power (getting even greater paycheck to paycheck btw) and lots of room, cool interior, and a sweet stock stereo system. It is all up to you though, but like they said before, with a NA car, especially ones like the Spec V and the 2.5 RS you will be wishing for a turbo for sure. Also, do you have to get a sedan? There are a couple of nice cars out there like the RSX Type-S and Celica GTS that I sometimes wish I would have checked out before I bought my car. Just my 2 Cents....

thanks, oh man, i just heard "essential" is makin a turbo for the 3...darnit! anyone drive the 3 yet??

The RSX-S or the 3 sedan (with a turbo kit) would be the only cars I would have chosen over my MSP, but the Type S was at least $5k more expensive & the 3 wasn't out. I would have considered a Cooper S too if only I could fit into it. :p

i just clicked on you "pros and cons" for the msp, that really helped. now i just need to know how much the turbo will cost for the 3, or when the ms3 will come out..

I just checked prices...

HiBoost kit is $4k
Wagner is $3250 with a FMIC
EssentialSpeed is $2900 for Stage I & $3900 for Stage II

Therefore, I'd expect to pay 3000 something dollars for the 3 kit, but you can't really know until it comes out.

As for the MS3, if it ever does come out, it won't be until the end of the 1st gen 3's lifecycle...in other words, I wouldn't expect it before 2006 at the earliest.

EDIT: Oh yeah, glad my thread helped you.

Ugh are you kidding? RSX?
Hey man, If you can get a '98 RS in WRBlue Pearl adn drop a turbo on it, you = the s***.

You can have all that for ~11k. Alternatively, if you want to buy a MSP, Give me enough for the RS and turbo and you can have mine.

No I'm not kidding Mr. WRX. Several of my friends have RSX-Ss here in south FL (all with Hondata) & they are running between 13.7-14.1 ETs. IMO, the K20 is the best NA motor you can buy short of the 6cyl in the E46 M3.

While i will admit that the engine is a technological wonder, the automobile is a sum of its parts and that one is bland and uninspired.

Perhaps I am being to hard on it, but when I compare it to the USDM Integra GS-R or R, i find that it is significantly less of a driver's car, more of an overweight luxo mobile. It is sloppy, detached from the exhiliration of speed and cushy.

I HAVE driven one, and i feel that it is too similar to the new SI. Solid, boring and painstakingly average.

Seriously, there are so many good cars out there. There are so many good cars that Honda makes, dont waste time with the RSX.

Besides, you can make anything fast. I know CRXs that run 8s and 9s and that car is not fast stock. Also, I kick the crap out of RSXs in my "stock" MSP. Until I see a USDM RSX-R I will not be impressed. I dont want to buy a car, drop 10k in it and still have a FWD drag Honda... Now if I had an S2000, I would drop 10k on that in a heartbeat

Also, to further my point of cars being the sum of their parts, look at the MSP. Not terribly fast, not terribly anything, but a GREAT car. The RSX is like the spec-v. Good in power, straight line et al. but not much of a car...

yeah the K20 engine rocks in my opinion, but you are right what you said about the S2000!! OK back on topic, I am sorry for my lil' Honda-diversion. Yeah, dude test drive an SRT4 too, but seriously out of all those cars, I still feel the MSP is best bang-for-buck BY FAR!!!!
