Car Running Like Ass!!

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
Ok so here's the situation, I was driving this evening (it's about 67 degrees out) and noticed that my car was really bogging down. So I started to pay attention to my boost gauge and Air/Fuel, I noticed that when accelerating right before the turbo would spool the car would go lean, bog, and then go rich and run strong all the way to 10psi. Now it did this in just about every gear the car was in, no matter under full throttle or half. I mean the car would run strong once it was under boost, and there was no pressure drop off or anything.

What Fixed It: Well under just a whim thought I figured i'd try and reset my ECU, so there I am, about 1:00 am in a parking lot with my hood up resetting my ECU. Once it was reset I started the car, took it for a drive, and everything seems to be working just fine.

So is this going to be a recurring thing, should we just expect to have to reset our ECU's every thousand miles or so, cause that would be just a pain in the ass. Has anyone else had any experiance with this sort of thing, or any Idea what might have caused it?

When I reset my ecu the car runs great....after a little while a 1000 KM's or so the hestiation returns. if this helps

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you reset the ECU? Disconnect the battery for a while? How long?

Yeah you just dosconnect the negative termial on the battery, and then I usually tap the brake to get rid of the rest of the electrical in the system.

my car is actually running worse since I reset my ECU! All I have is the FPR kit from Joe. Thought I would give it a shot....didn't work for s***! At least in my car!

After I reset mine, I took it for another drive this morning on the Highway and around town, It runs great, the ECU reset did it, I just wish there was somthing more permanent.

did you take it easy for the first 10 miles..? I heard that has something to do with the way the ECU determines your MPG's or something like that!

No I want the car to know how I drive right from the get go, so after I reset it I let it idle for a little while and then go bascially romp on it so it knows how I like to drive.

just something I remember reading on here a while back!

Still, I don't understand why it is running worse now before the reset??? I disconnected the "+" terminal, don't really think it makes a difference though!

Did you disconnect both or just the Positive terminal by it's self because for somereason I can't imagine that would be great for the car.

what i did on my friends prelude is ran a switch that would cut out the power supply to the ecu's memory.
when every his CEL would come on all he had to do was flip the switch and no more CEL.
all we need to do is find the right wire that supplys the ecu's memory codes.

Isn't the negative terminal on the battery the same as just grounding to the chassis? It seems tha if you want to cut power, you actually have to disconnect the positive lead...

MazdaspeedZOOM0- did your car every jerk around when you felt this "bogging" ??cuz you might be going through what happened to me

Not really, it was just like a small hesitation, you could watch the car go lean for about 1sec and then go rich into boost and be fine. Is was in no way a huge jerk, or really even noticeable had I not been watching my Air/Fuel gauge.

I didnt reset my ECU when in installed the kit. The stumble was noticeably less, and got better as miles went on. But then installed my gauges, and left the battery unhooked for a couple hours. Once i was finished, went for a drive, and BAM, stumbled worse than before, and eventually got less and less. Been driving for 300 miles now, and the car still bogs alot before 4k, but doesnt kick anymore like it did.
The car is just too rich, and what it really needs is an s-afc tuning....

i did it once and it went away but came back so i was like screw it ill wait for the reflash.

mspzoom-did you ever get this resolved?
