Car not starting after tank fill-up...faulty purge valve solenoid?

I have a 2004 Mazda3 2.3L with about 160K miles. Just recently after a full tank fill-up, the car refuses to start unless I give it some gas. Every fill-up since then, I’ve had to press the gas pedal several times to start the car. Some folks are saying it’s a bad Purge Valve Solenoid. The CEL just came on, but I have not had the codes pulled yet.

Anyone else experience this?

Anyone have the part number? Cost? Level of difficulty to replace?

Thanks in advance!

i had the same problem every time i filled up i would have to get a jump because the engine would just click, no cranking.. i tried a new battery and havent had any issues since.. dont know if its the same issue but i was initially told the purge valve as well but due to my symptoms i tried the battery.

Thought about that initially, but battery was just replaced about 1 year ago. But, I will test it to make sure.

The thing is, it only happens after fueling up the tank. After the initial hiccup, all subsequent start ups are fine/normal. This is now occurring every time after a fill-up.

BTW, I called my local Mazda dealer and they want $140 for the purge vavle solenoid, Part #LF66-20-360K. An online website has an updated Part #LF66-18-74X for $99 plus shipping. Does anyone know what the differences are with the two part numbers???

thats when mine occured.. only when i filled it up.. otherwise no issues at all... check onlinemazdaparts.com for the part

I just did, about $97 from them. Part #LF66-18-74X is the new replacement part. Hope this will fix the problem.

BTW, does anyone have installation pictures? Looks pretty simple, I'm just worried about fuel or vapor in the line that might be cause a mess.

Thanks!
