Car Bra's: Pros and Cons

bras belong on women... not cars.

well, uhm, i guess the women could go without them... that would be pretty cool.
Get a 3m stoneguard job. Worth it. Also, look into covers for your headlights--film that's applied like the clear bras, not a thick Lucite cover. Keeps the usual road rash off your plastic lenses.

While you're at it, get your S.O. a clear bra--one with with nipple ports. Class act; gets attention in public every time. :D

I have one and it really does protect your front end, Specially if you take long trips like I do. Take it off and clean it often and make sure you have a nice thick coat of wax under it. I will caution bras in hot climates like Phoenix cause Im having some problems woth paint discoloration on my hood, the paint looks great were the bra is but above it it looks a little discolored.

I use the magentic bra, it doesn't cover the bumper but it protects the hood.

I like the way it looks, and it has already saved quite a few hits.

I don't think it looks that bad on a black car though... i saw a 3 in Florida this past week and it was black with a black bra, looked pretty sleek.

I have one, it works very well. but I only use it when going on a long trip, or during BUG season and driving a LOT. the thing you MUST do is to clean UNDERNEATH it very well now and then if you are keeping it on or the paint will get messed up sooner than later. as long as I have had my cars, I keep a small towel in a ziplock bag that is damp. as soon as I get where I am going, I wipe the fresh bugs off and they come right off and they don't turn into SUPERGLUE, works for me.

I've got clear 3M film on my hood, and none on my bumper. I took a long highway trip after a snowstorm where they used gravel for grip on the icy highway. So after the ice melted, it was a high speed highway with gravel all over it. My bumper got chewed up BAD and one of my foglights got smashed due to the rocks and gravel, but there were no markings at all on my hood where the 3M film was applied. I would highly recommend this film be applied to your hood and bumper; you will get year round protection from rock chips and not have to deal with the hassle of a bra or deflector.

but a fair warning, if you put the 3m s*** on a fiberglass body kit, when u go to repaint.... most body shops will order a new bumper... thats what i was told so i didnt do that to my bumper...

What body shop told you this? Removal of clear bras is pretty painless and there should be no reason you have to order a completely new part other than to pad the pockets of said body shop.

Anyway, regular bras damage paint, are ugly, and just all around lame.

terrebonne ford body shop, they said the chemical they used to remove it melts and smears the 3m stuff.. making it almost impossible to get off.. i guess they were just bsing me then.....

So is everybody using the clear bras going & getting their bumpers/hoods painted first or do you just have bubbles in the clear stuff from preXisting chips & imperfections from having nothing?

I did not put my 3M over any chips, but I plan on getting my bumper repainted and 3M applied after repainting. I would not recommend putting the 3M on a chipped bumper - If you're going to spend the money to have it done, you might as well spend the money to repair the bumper first and make it look good.

I repainted my car before installing my rockblocker invisible bra. I wish I could have afforded the hood at the same time as the bumper. I have a small chip in the black part of my hood.

clear bra's are awesome. nearly everyone up here in Vail has one on their car. When I was down in FL, everyone was wondering wtf I had on my car! haha - Deff worth the money as long as your bumper and hood are painted for good! :) If anyone wants any pics, let me know!

OK ya'll,

With all the talk about paint chips and such, I've entertained the idea of buying a bra for my P5. Can I get some pros, cons, and general tips about the use of a bra.

(hear ya)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not because I am too lazy to read all the replies, but I really dont see what good a bra would do. The majority of my chips are past the point where a bra would cover. Besides I have seen a few pics and they dont look too hot. Take it easy.
