This is an very old article. The first time I read it, i though it was a bit harsh on all the cars, and some of the numbers for accel time s are bit strange as well. Other comments in the article just seemed too odd as well
"The Kenwood Excelon Z919 audio system, with its cascading LCD graphics, Mouseketeer controls, and huge trunk-mounted electronic support package, was dismissed as "absurd" by one tester."
This to me is a pure sign that the people testing these cars are just too old for modern cars. Anyone that calls the z919 absurd needs to get a life. It's probably the best stock stereo system ever put in a car. Just because the moron is too stupid to figure out how to use it, does not make it a bad stereo. Just because his fingers are too fat to use the buttons doesn't mean anyting to me either. I'm sick of old people calling something crap because they don't have the patience to figure it out.
For the record, I have the z828 in mine.
Heck, they can't even use the correct picture of the mp3. The blue one they show is the prototype. Wrong rims, yellow calipers ( btw: I painted mine last weekend with the G2 kit finally!).
They even mention that the Nissan is a preproduction car. Hardly fair to put a car that's NOT finished yet up against anything. And Car and Driver is famous for doing this crap. Why even compare it to anything. Why not just wait for a final production car?
They did this crap a few years ago with a 97 prelude. It was preproduction as well. They s*** on it left and right, and at the end say oh, btw, it's "preproduction" anyway. So the whole article was a waste of time. A year later, the did the same car, and praised it up like crazy, and all the accel. times were better too. Killer is, the average joe, reads the bad article, and not the good one, and thinks the car is crap because he believes every word of it.
I gave up on Car and driver a long time ago. Good drivers. Bad writers. i don't care if they picked it as #1. I don't think it was a fair article for any car.
And, They need new younger drivers....so does motor trend. Don't get me started on motor trend. Any company that picks the thunderbird as car of the year......well, they did it because of "fond memories" of their old 57 t-birds. Proof that there getting up there in age.
