Can't turn off my battery!!--start stop button only toggles between Ignition and ACC

I've search everywhere here for someone else with a similar problem without any luck. Here's the problem:

After turning off the engine the system defaults to ACC setting. Pressing the start button again turns on the ignition. Pressing it again puts it back to ACC. As far as I can tell it's impossible to turn off the battery manually now, and I have to leave it in ACC until it automatically shuts off after around 25 minutes. This isn't a HUGE deal, but it means I can't lock/unlock my car until the system shuts itself off, which is super inconvenient. It's like the car thinks I'm turning it off in neutral, when I'm definitely in park.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope I'm just missing something dumb, but the owner's manual isn't helping and I can't find anyone else with a similar problem!

I think someone had an issue like this where there was a problem in the gear selector such that it wasn’t detecting that the car was in park. I’d suggest taking it into the dealer to have it checked out.

There's also a TSB dealing with premature wear of the On/Off button on early model year cars.

I'll call the dealership today and ask if it's a problem they've seen before. Thanks for the reply!

Are you 100% sure that you put the car in Park?

I did this once and sat there for 10 minutes like an idiot, simply because the car was still in D.

Got a 2017 CX-5 picked up new last Friday, Dec 15th with 86km on it off the lot.

Yesterday morning (Sunday) moved the car in driveway to put in a car seat but after throwing into Park and trying to shut off the engine, it went to ACC with the yellow light on, on the Start/Stop Engine button. W. T. F.

As jthj referenced, it did seem like a sensor not detecting the gear-selector was actually in Park. After a few tries of wiggling the shifter backwards and forwards as well as driving around the block, and some more throwing the shifter back and forth into Park, it finally worked.

Will be calling my dealership shortly to let them know about this. Not expecting anything to be done on it but I'll report back if there is.
