Canada to seize/crush modified vehicles!!

It gets worse , if you are caught speeding at 50 kph(30mph) over the limit your car will be imponded and crushed because you are racing . Persoanlly I think this has gone to far . It is time for the policy maker to take a hard look at all the deaths caused by crime ,DUI ,Poverty ,taxes ,condition of the transport system . Last but not least realize that ontario does stop outside Toronto .
It really doesnt help that the police hassle people that take their cars to the track to race and race there only . I also blame the insurance companies for making next to impossible for a track owner to get insurance . If they are worried about street raacing then make it easier to take it to the track .

thats awesome. cali and canada are crushing cars because 15 ppl die a year in street racing accidents. woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. in my county alone in the last 6 months 200'ish ppl have died from drunk driving accidents. focus attention and money where there really is a problem. and make tracks easier to access and cheaper

There are stupid people in this world and there will always be stupid people but the smart ones don't get into office or power because the smart people are smart enough to realize that politics is a crappy job. So, we are stuck with stupid people trying to push stupid ideas into power because they hate the way modified cars sound and look and ALL modified car drivers race at night on the streets and drive really fast and kill people!! I had a bad day and I'm venting but everything I said I meant!

they crush cars in CA for racing, not cars that can or will be street raced...

Exactly.

This reminds me of a bad version of that Tom Cruise movie where they can predict the crimes.

Actual text of the article, from Left Lane News (my analysis to follow):
Canadian province claims power to seize, destroy modified cars

Police in Canada's most populous province have the right to seize and destroy any car that has been modified for street racing, Ontario's top prosecutor claims.
If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car obviously for the purpose of street racing then we can seize those vehicles, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Wednesday, according to the Canadian Press.
We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car, we will crush the parts.
We don't need to wait until that car hits the road fully loaded, he said, adding that modified cars are as dangerous as explosives, capable of causing catastrophic damage.
Mr. Bryant was also an architect of Ontario's recent pit bull ban, which was designed to "protected from the menace" of "dangerous dogs," which he characterized as "nothing but a loaded weapon waiting to go off."
Bryant's comments on modified cars seem to suggest Ontario's liberal government is exempt fromthe Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which states: "Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure."
It's not known if Bryant's latest comments are an accurate reflection of Canadian or Ontario law, or if police will use this apparent power, but it's clear Ontario's police are getting tired of dangerous driving.
There is no excuse for street racing and aggressive driving, such as the high speeds and unsafe lane changes we have seen recently, Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino said in a recent press release.
Ok, so here's what we need to take away from this, keeping in mind that I'm not a lawyer or a Canukistani:
Police in Canada's most populous province have the right to seize and destroy any car that has been modified for street racing, Ontario's top prosecutor claims.
This is something the attorney general has said. That does not make it law.
Mr. Bryant was also an architect of Ontario's recent pit bull ban,
The guy is a reactionary and an alarmist.

The guy is quite possibly just talking out of his ass. Odds are, this is no big deal.

minority report i think it was, i liked that movie.

This has been in the talks in Ontario for a while now. About 18 months ago, the Ontario government crushed a civic hatchback and another modded car with a bulldozer, to try and launch this whole thing. I'd really like to see how they are going to go about this.

like i was saying earlier, if they catch you racing (and you don't need a modified car to race) then crush it...but to go out and crush all modified cars, that could be race cars, is just plain stupid...the lawyers will love this one!

This is my thought exactly. I would love to see them defend their actions in court if they crushed someone's car simply because it looked like it could be raced.

Woah~ I totally didn't see that one coming. >_<

I'd feel better if they crushed the cars of the stupid people who talk on their phones behind the wheel. I see too many people who start dialing as soon as they get into their cars. -_-++
