do you really think there is even a remote possibility that anyone is going to try to invade the US? maybe this is my american ignorance speaking but it really doesnt seem like anything that is a realistic possibility.

Aside from N Korea or some screwball dictators invading a neighbor I think the US is the only country that would try to invade another one in this day and age.

Not it is not ignorance. Your quite right when you say most likely however there is still a possiblity now a days. All the things happening in N korea and in the Arabian Countries worry me. It is quite possible to launch a nuclear strike from the atlantic coast and easily reach the U.S. Also don't forget the next precious commodity after oil is water and Canada has one of the highest percentages of fresh water in the world. Invading is out of the question however a nuclear strike is another form of terrorisme.. (canada) (usa)

On that topic...did you guys know that our imigration dept here in Canada has been FLOODED with requests and inquiries from US Citizens on immigrating to Canada since the Bush Election Win?

In fact they are being bogged down with requests.

I guess i wasn't the only one. ;)

Naaah...Then to think the Canadian military is still considered better!! Pretty neet how they train these guys to drop from the airplain with a hand gun and take out 50 or 60 men on the way down!! As for the Coast guard..that just reinforces the statement ealier about the need for investing in our navy...... :D (canada)

but the same can be said about your power grid.. Quebec powers most of the eastern states with it's Hydro power.

We give power, in exchange, your country has doomed Michigan to be a landfill... we would have accepted money, but they suggested dumping trash :P

lmfao. say, how much does the average canadian making 200k actually take home from his paycheck?? it would make me ****** puke giving back so much of my money, its insane. judging from this thread i would be led to believe canada is actually richer than the united states and has a better military. hmmmm if canada had the inclination to actually make an impact ion the middle east, could it? (huh)

we have two nuclear plants within a 2 hour drive of me. Both in Michigan. Also a coal plant 45 mins from me, and a hydro plant 55mins from me.
I doubt thats correct. Kinda funny though, when the Niagra power line failed in aug 03, it must have been carrying current TO canada, their power went out...

I think that was mostly due to us New Yorkers and our power hungry city. Thank you, thank you, hold your applause. We have extra power comming from Cnada and conneticut and still have power outages. Now that is hard work and determination right there.

Actually the root cause of the blackout occured in Ohio (I think it was a tree that knocked out a major line) and then a series of events took place where different grids tried taking power from the next plant and then the next....and because we are all linked together ...we all lost power.

Niagara had nothing to do with it....

We get taxed a lot in Canada but then we also have a lot of social programs to pay for, the largest being public healthcare. We also get $$ taken from our cheques for employment insurance (welfare) but there are less ppl using it and that department is seeing record stockpiles of cash and no reason to use it (i dont think that amount is even accounted for in our surplus.

We won't be seeing any tax breaks in the near future. We've had surpluses for years now...all thaks to our liberal gov't, and I think most Canadians don't want lower taxes mainly because a lot is paid for this way and cutting taxes only means the gov't will have to tighten their belts anyways

public healthcare in Canada is fine if you want 1st aid. Anything major has to be undertaken in the States. That's why the Mayo clinic and all it's friends are along the northern border and do so well - currently serving 2 countries

^^ depends what you consider 'major'. Cuz I can't think of anything beyond neurological surgery that people have left the country for. Our surgeons are just as qualified as american ones. And lots of the surgeons in the US are Canadians, cuz they want the money from lack of health care.

Broken bones.. done here. Birth, done here. (all very pricey in the states)
heart surgery.. the best child heart surgeons in the world are in Ottawa and Toronto. My step-dad had a double bypass done in Ottawa, not a single complication.

The fact I can get all my cancer treatment for FREE in Canada versus $50k in the states, I'd be much happier here. Although a pay clinic would be nice for the < 1 hour wait... i'll deal with waiting for 2 hours to get service as it costs me nothing :)

Actually.. that power outage was due to the fact that our power networks are so tightly intertwined. Read up a bit more on the power failure, it was caused by some schmuck in Connecticut.

Read up some more and you'll see that Quebec does power most of the northern-eastern states. Within 2 hours of me, there are over 10 hydro plants and 2 nuclear plants. As well as countless solar powered buildings throughout the city that feed back to the grid. I can't say much about coal plants.. Canada has pretty much gotten rid of all of those.

i didnt get an answer to my question. how much is the highest tax bracket taxed? i know a few people from canada that have moved here, one is a well to do engineer who made over 200,000 in canada but couldnt even live comfortably after more than half of his paychecks are pwned.

id much rather the government allow me to keep more money myself that i can put into a free competitive market for health care. competition and greed are what keeps America so strong. still the highest real gdp/ person in the world to my knowledge????

actually it was traced to two sagging lines in Ohio that snapped :)
