can you make an Injen cai into an sri

I was just wondering if anyone has turned their injen cai into an sri? Just looking at it it seems possible. And was their any major differences?

It wouldn't be too hard...you might need a small piece of tubing to connect to the MAF. I can't remember off the top of my head how far away from the fans the MAF is with the Injen installed.

I think it is possible, however, the brace for the intake is on the second piece, so if you took off the cold air part it would just be hanging. If you could make a brace for it I don't see why there would be a problem.

I was seriuosly just thinking the same question myself. I think you probably could hook up a filter directly to the second half of the MAF and then my only issue would be about the sensor that is located on the second half of the piping. How would you go about remounting the sensor thats right before or after the MAF whichever you prefer. any ideas or does this sensor not even really need to be hooked up?????

I ordered an Injen last friday and I will make it a SRI. I also have the Injen heat shield/splash guard (free) and I will make a custom bracket. The temp. does not need to be hooked up. Just tie it and tuck it in somewhere.

I believe when I get my msp back from the dealers tommorrow I may try it out for a few days. Although I dought I'll find Much of a difference between the two styles. I got about four inches of snow outside and its supposed to be colder than a witches tit all week here in the mountains.

Yeah let us know how it turns out. also I was thinking you might need a slimmer cone filter. The one that comes with the Injen kit looks too big for that area. I may be wrong though..

Just get a short piece of hard pipe that is the same diameter as the injen, and put a bung for the sensor in that. You could just zip-tie it somewhere, but it's better to have as accurate of a reading as possible from that sensor. The actual best place for it is in the IC---->TB pipe because it gives a true reading of the temperature of the air that is going into the engine. Where it is now, the air is being heated (turbo) and then cooled (IC) AFTER the reading is taken.

This short pipe will also relocate the filter to a better spot that is further from the engine and more importantly, out of the path of the cooling fan. You could also weld your new mounting bracket to this piece instead of putting it on the injen itself.

I don't really think that it will make a big positive difference, but you guys that are really wanting an SRI should just do it this way.

Yeah I don't think it would cost very much and it could make a difference. The only thing that bothers me is if I like it how I could go about getting a heat shield for it during the summer. Hell if its done right right I could alwasy run the CAI during the summer and the SRI during the winter. That way I don't have to worry about The cone filter sucking in snow all winter long.

well I am goin to the hardware store now to get a hardpipe with a slim bend to attach to the MAF and drill a hole for the temp sensor then attach the cone filter to that. cant wait to get it done. let you all know how it turns out. By the way anybody else try converting an Injen CAI in to a SRI?

505, I don't quite agree with that statement, and here is why. You want to read the temperature of the air that you are measuring with the maf. It's part of the calculation by the PCM to figure out the A/F ratios. The air coming out of the IC is normally going to be warmer then the air traveling past the maf, because no IC is 100% efficient. So with warmer air=thinner air, the PCM may lean out the A/F ratio.

The only time I would move the Air Temp sensor to the location you suggest, is if you have relocated the MAF aft of the turbo and IC like a couple of people have done (BrianMP5 and CustomMSP).

Well just got done converting my Injen CAI into a SRI. It was a very easy process so far all I really did was attach the filter directly to the second half of the MAF and it fits perfect. Really didnt get to take her out to see some difference because its snowing like whoa in Michigan and the streets are ice. I could though tell a difference in sounds it seemed to sound a bit louder and spooled up faster but I really couldnt get on it in the snow. looks sweet though and I cant wait till this freakin snow is GONE. Also probably gonna fab some sort of mounting bracket because it seems to be a little shaky.
