Can the Mazda5's DIS be activated?

I know our '08 doesn't. So if yours does, what's it for normally?

Memory fail! I think I was picturing my friends CX-7 that I rode in during lunch. I tried every trick mentioned on the other models and nothing seemed to activate a DIS. Not fair! (bang)

But that also shows an 'INFO' button right of the hazard switch that I think was mentioned being needed to activate/toggle this information.

I have read that some year of the Mazda 3 also do not have the "INFO" button. For those models, the "SET" button for the clock control is used instead.

all years of the mazda3 GT trim had the "INFO" button, and had the DIS pre-activated from the factory as an advertised feature.

the lower trims (sport, touring) had the "SET" button through 2007, and the DIS feature wasn't advertised. it was just hidden, and it worked the same way once activated, using the "SET" button.

starting in 2008, the "SET" button was replaced with ":00", and the DIS could not be activated. however, owners discovered that if they replaced the head unit with an older one, they could then activate the DIS with the ":00" button.

i don't know if the mazda5's head unit guts can be replaced with an older mazda3's head unit while still keeping the original fascia and buttons. it may be possible, and LKQ sells lots of used OEM head units on ebay if anyone wanted to tinker.

Not worth an investment in my opinion. Regardless of how cheap an older one can be purchased for. Now GOODbox is a completely different story. Too bad it doesn't have a USB port for programming and data streaming.

That's a great deal!

The only downside is you have to stick to the windshield or mount it somewhere. I've never been a fan of doing that with a device like this. A GPS maybe, but not an OBD device. This isn't something I'd make my wife drive around with.

In case there is really no DIS for the 5, and you think you really need it, you can
use maxitrip. If in Canada, they can be found at Princess Auto.

I think it has more features than the factory DIS. For one it has a 'black box' function.
records distance, max speed, etc.. of the previous number of drives.
