Can I use 2016-2023 CX-9 Rims on my 2014 AWD GT?

Hi,

New to the forum and looking for some advice.

Found a person selling their OEM 8Jx18 ET45 rims with 255/60R18 112V Yokohama Geolander HT G056 tyres from a 2021 CX-9 and want to know if I can put them on my AUS 2014 GT AWD CX-9?

From researching, the only difference is that the rim from the 2021 CX-9 is 8" wide with the slightly wider 255's as opposed to my current 245/50R20 7.5Jx18 ET45. Offset range is the same, only the backspacing is different. I do a bit of off-roading and I like the idea of a higher sidewall of the 60's.

I know with the 2014 models, the non GT trims come with OEM 245/60R18's on 7.5 rims so I'm assuming using slightly wider rims and tyres should be ok? Just concerned with the extra width of the rims and tyres and 6mm backspacing difference and how close the rim/tyres will get to the suspension.

Mazda CX-9 TB.III [2012 .. 2015] 3.7i
Tire Rim Offset Range mm Backspacing mm
OE 245/60R18 105H 7.5Jx18 ET45 43 - 47 153

Mazda CX-9 TC [2016 .. 2024] 2.5T
Tire Rim Offset Range mm Backspacing mm
OE 255/60R18 107H 8Jx18 ET45 43 - 47 159

All other specs across both are matching:
Center Bore / Hub Bore: 67.1 mm
Bolt Pattern (PCD): 5x114.3 (5x4.5)
Wheel Fasteners: Lug nuts
Thread Size: M12 x 1.5
Wheel Tightening Torque: 108 - 147 Nm

Thanks for your help in advance.
Cheers

When I bought my 2009 cx9 it had some 20" rims on it that were definitely wider than the stock 7.5" rim. They looked a little weird because they stuck out a bit from the profile of the car. I didn't have any issues with them though the short time I had them.
I actually think though with having the AWD I would not change the tires in any way from stock just to be safe. My other concern would be that these cars are known for going through wheel bearings and the wider tires may accelerate that. So while they probably would fit, I don't know if it would be worth the risks.

Good to know and point taken. The person I bought them from put 275's on his wider than 20" rims and he said they've been fine. I'll give these a try anyways and hopefully the marginal difference won't have much or any affect at all. Thanks

i have 275/45's on my oem 20's they run fine. there's more traction overall but nothing notable from the 255/50 in terms of ride comfort or noise.

Might wanna get some mudflaps for those larger rims as they stick out there will definitely be throwing up some stones mugs and whatever else is on the road.
