why won't ms3 sswap into protege?, it will be done sooner or later
no it won't. in all seriousness, it won't. its not even remotely worth it. where to start.
1) doesn't share the same mounting points at all. you'd have more luck swapping it into a focus. the engine is from a whole new family and doesn't remotely line up with the axles nor would it bolt to the transmission. the ms3 axles would be needed and won't mate to the hubs and suspension of a protege.
2) exhaust and intake are reversed. on the protege, intake manifold is in the back and exhaust manifold is upfront. nothing would line up, period. generous amounts of custom work notwithstanding.
3) engine would not run without its own computer, which will not run without its own gauge cluster, which will not run without its own key and lock cylinders, which will not run without its own immbolizer. none of which remotely plugs into or fits anything into a protege. standalones cannot run these engines thanks to ....
4) direct injection fuel system.
5) the engine is just frankly not that good. ms3/6ers who disagree with me, please stop. its not that good of an engine and everyone who is making real power on them now knows it. the FS-DE has a keyway to lock the crank and cams for perfect timing. the DISI does not. people blow them up stock, people blow them up at 350 whp. its far cheaper to build an FS-DE and make that same number than it ever would be to "Drop in" an ms3 engine. plus, the FS-DE is smaller and lighter and spare parts are far more readily available and cheaper.
could it be done? sure. will it be done? probably not. there is absolutely nothing gained through even remotely considering the swap. you'll be as fast or faster with a more reliable setup sticking with built turbo FS than cobbling together a DISI swap and going broke in the process.
