Can I run 225/45/18?

08 Mazda3 hatch-gt
Hi guys,

I have an 08 Mazda 3s GT hatch with a set of Mazdaspeed3 wheels on for the summer. It's time for some new rubber and was wondering if I can go a little wider on the tire and not have any rubbing or suspension clearance issues. I'm looking to go 225/45/18 versus the oem 215/45/18. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

BTW, I have stock springs and struts.

I had 215/45/18 tires on ms3 wheels before I lowered my car and I had some rubbing on the engine side of the front wheel wells when I turned. The regular 3 uses shorter tires than the ms3 does. 225/40/18 is the perfect size. Plenty of grip and the smaller sidewall made for more clearance and crisper turns. Plus they should be cheaper than 225/45/18.

Yeah, if staying w/17's, a 225/45 is perfect. But since you've Plus1ed to 18" wheels a 225/40 would be better.

i test fitted the rims i have on my acura legend with 225/40/18s for a week and my 3 had absolutely no rubbing or anything on anyroad/hill/curve i could find

225/40/18 is the right size tire for non speed mazda3s. You won't get any rubbing unless you get wheels with the wrong offset.
