Can anybody tell me what exactly happens at 4k rpm with the engine in the MSP?

Guys guys,

I think this has to do with the fact that the vaccum line to the wastegate is not strong enough...I gave the wastegate it's own vac line today and bam the problem is gone! The car is also a lot smoother on and off gas. But now, the BPV is on a shared line again, and the damn turkeys are super loud(a lot of compressor surge again :)). I'll take this trade off for now. I can actually feel the effect of the "flash" now. Justin, disabling VICS is only a temp solution to this problem, unless you like driving with about 10whp less at any give point before the switch over. Everybody who has the time and the hands to do so try and give the wastegate it's own line and see what happends. Now get to work :)

CustomMSP: Pics and an explanation would be great... agreed with the above, however - this sound slike PRE-flash behavior. Had mine flashed at Sansone, major difference and large reduction in bucking/surging.

were do u source a vacum line just for the wastegate? im assumin ur not "t"in it off anothe rline so where do u get the vacume from? sorry if this is moronic.....

At 4k the ecu also goes into open loop operation. The weird thing is that its rpm based not throttle based.

i think this might be your problem. right around 4k it goes to open loop and dumps a s*** load of fuel in..

thanks for the info CustomMSP....i got a boost guage in the mail right now so this is good info, thanks again.....

It dumps a lot of fuel. Just watching the a/f when it goes to open loop the last rich led stays lit till redline.

Thanks Jersey_EMT. Soon enough I'll know something about this car to be a denger to it.

No problem...and remember, it's NOT knowing enough that's a danger. :)

Custom...tried disabling the VICS just for the hell of it today, it helped a little. Moved the dedicated vacuum line from the BPV to the wastegate and it helped more. When I was trying to kill the turkey using the stock pipes/BPV the last time I hooked up the dedicated line from the intake manifold was to the BPV.

Justin,

So you have VICS disabled plus the dedicated line to the wastegate or just a dedicated line to the wastegate and VICS unabled? Which helped more?

I was able to try every combination of:

1. Dedicated line to wastegate / Dedicated line to BPV
2. VICS on / VICS off

The combination of a dedicated vacuum line to the wastegate, and VICS disabled was the smoothest...but re-enabling VICS bucked/jerked only a tiny bit. Not enough to warrant losing low/mid-range power by disabling VICS.

So, now I have VICS enabled, and the dedicated vacuum line running to the wastegate. It's the best compromise.

For anyone who wants to try this: keep in mind that these are only VERY slight changes in behavior....a lot of people won't even be able to tell the difference.

Yeah, for me it was a very noticable change, but other people in the car couldn't feel much of a difference.

Justin,

I have a few Ideas that I want to work on this holiday weekend on "killing the turkey". I'm just waiting for a few parts to come in...If you want to come by let me know. Or any1 else thats interested let me know...a mini hang out at my place

Yeah, that's what I though too. Paul, did you solve your clutch problem?

Yep, New ACT clutch installed last sat. I got 300 miles on it already, break in says 200-300miles so i should be good to go. I haven't pushed it yet since i got the new clutch. I figure this weekend I will take in for a nice ride and beat on it a lilttle. I like the feel of the ACT much more than the clutchmasters. I have to get to the bottom of the reason why the CM failed. Only one side of the clutch was burnt... I think it was defectice from the factory, i have to get in contact with them.

I also got a TT that im installing sunday if the weather is nice.

Does anyone realize all the work and effort we are having to put into our MSP's just to try to make them run decent?

CustomMSP-I had mine "flashed" once and it didn't do squat for my car. It still hesitates during acceleration in all gears @ all rpm's. So I guess it's not worth the trouble of doing it a second time?
