the ignition system on the proteges , your right , do have only two coilpacks that fire 1+4 then 3+2 cylinders respectfully in that order.afrey2002 said:being one of the three whose car has blown up I could safely assume that the cams played no part, niether did advanced timing because I drive a P5 not an MP3. Faulty ignition did play a huge roll though. if you've ever looked under the hood of most other late model cars like the vw's you'll notice they have ignition coils or coil pack going to every cylinder. Mazdas only have one for every two, pretty weak stuff. It's cost effeciant though, and that seemed to be the only thing that mattered at the time.

I plan to go with a turbo by the end of the year, but also i am considering right now to get the cams within the next week, and have them installed. I dont want to get them if they are going to cause problems with the turbo, or what about if i swap out the Mp3 ecu with a Protege5 ecu, should i have the same problems?
