can i get a list of all the manufacturers people know of that make cam gears for our cars, i dont care if they only make one or the other or both I just wanna start pricing stuff out if I plan to make the most out of custom ground cams.

yeah the problem why not a heap of people make the cam gears is the sensor on the exhaust cam gear....and as you know, i need cam gears!!!!

I have just spent the last hour reading posts on the cams and it looks like a lot of people say you really need the gears. Looks like I will be getting a set as well...

How do you like your AWR motor mounts? Did you notice a lot more vibration? Also, did you notice any difference when you disconnected the coolant hoses to the throttlebody?

off topic - motor mounts are good...but make the car rough. disconnected coolant hoses dont make a noticeable difference, but i'm sure they help ever so slightly by not making the TB as hot. but that's certainly something i wouldnt recommend for cold climates.

since there is a lot of people getting cams and stuff now - maybe we should try to organise a GB?

for cam gears u mean?

im all for that.

the one from sr motorsports, when they say its a set they mean for both ends of the intake cam or they mean for both cams?

also since i am an uber noob here when it comes to these particular areas can u explain if it is a physical or electrical problem that makes it difficult to make the exhaust cam gears for this car?

yep, GB on cam gears...i think hondatomazda is a tri-point person that likes to organise GB's on here...not 100% sure though

and yeah, i assume SR mean both cams....and i'd be pretty sure they are just tri-point cam gears too.

now, why they are difficult to make for our car? check out your head cover. see there's a electrical sensor close to the power steering pump? well that sensors how often the cam gear turns around. below is a picture of the cam gears for our car.

attachment.php

see on the outside of the gear there's a [] [] on one side and a [] on the opposite? well that's what the sensor reading from. without those the sensor wont work.

so those are the tri-points in the picture?

and also it seems all it would take it adding that little rectangular bump, or indentation as it would be in the mold, and pump out a bunch for cars that use that feature.

which I am sure they are starting to do but the proteges will be near the end of the line in supported cars me thinx.

What do you think a good GB price would be on these?

The problem with the exhaust cam gear sensor its that its used to trigger the injection of fuel. So, if you adjust it, you will adjust fuel injection timing, and you will have problems.
The perfect cam gear would be one asjustable with the trigger adjustable too, its not that difficult i think. (you adjust 2 degrees advanced and 2 deg retarded for the trigger)

AWR mount are very rough the 1st month (if both installed), unacceptable vibration, its like night and day.

but after that, you will love it, its performance wise.

I would be in for a GB for the cam gears... I've heard that tripoint has good instructions with some good tips for starting numbers. Anyone heard about the cam gears SR has?

So, igdrasil, are you saying the motor mounts wear in to some degree? Once they do, they are acceptable? I don't want my car to rattle to pieces and sound like a piece of crapola!

Tri-Point Engineering/ProPartsUSA offer Cam gears for the Proteges. It's a 20 degree spread. From 0 degree you can advance the timing by 10 degrees or vice versa retard the timing. The Dyno had a 7 HP increase on the 2.0L N/A motor. There are 5 bolts. They are $315.00 shipped to any where in the 48 cont. States in the US. Number is 818-888-8904, you can PM me or call.
We are open from 8 - 5 PST M-F. If you guys were interested in a GB please let us know so we can become your authorized vendor on this board. Thanks.

-Jeff

hondatomazda - can you confirm the sensor on the exhaust cam gear is what decides when fuel is injected??? also, what would be a group buy price if we say got 10 people?

I had thought that Tri-Point solved that issue on the exhaust cam. It has been over a year since that was an issue anyway.

yeah they have, i wasnt asking that - i was wanting to have confirmed that the sensor on the exhaust cam is used for when to inject fuel

You might have problems with the exaust cam pulley as the cam position sensor reads the bumps on the stock pulley.

Good luck man but you might have to settle for adjustment only on the intake.

jeff - can you start a group buy thread on the for sale section of this board to generate interest in the items? and as per my previous post, what would be a GB price we'd be looking at for 10+ buyers?

I would buy a set...should probably wait until after Christmas though...feel guilty dropping that cash on myself so close to Ho' Ho's arrival!
