I installed my AEM intake last week and i noticed a weird thing about the intake... it makes a loud hissing noise at idle or when im just cruising.... on my old cars intake it didnt do that.... i was wondering if this is normal or not.... my friend has an iceman on a Neon and it dosent do this hissing thing.... does this warrant a problem?????? Anyone please help me....

Thats just intake noise...all our P5/MP3s with intake make that noise...its the sound of air being sucked in...but if its a LOUD hissing then Im not sure what you have going on...a hole in your tire perhaps?:D

I'm getting that too. I just installed an AEM. I wouldn't consider it loud though.
Have you noticed any other changes? I find that there is still a small vibration in the car now. Especially when I am stopped at a light and I'm holding down the brake. Sorta like a small feedback in the pedal. I also notice it on the gas pedal as well. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
I did reset the ECU by unplugging the negative terminal. I did this about 5 days ago so it has reprogrammed by now.
I'm guessing that the lack of large resonators will cause more noise and therefore more vibration. Any comments?

yeah i noticed a shutter right after i stop ... its almost like its acting like its going to stall.....

We were supposed to reset the computer???? I didnt know that... right after i installed it i went straight to the highway...

i also find myself flooring it constantly... this intake sounds bad ass. now i just need a louder exhaust b/c i cant hear the damn exhaust... lol... why does our car make this noise and with my experiece with intakes on my 1984 Rabbit GTI and my 2001 Golf TDI they didnt hiss and i had eurosport intakes on both of them and they didnt hiss but they did make a nice noise...

I also find myself blipping the throttle a lot.. it sounds alot like a turbo...

true true i just installed my weapon r dragon intake and i hear the hissing sound but its a good hissing sound just like they said its the air being sucked in...only good after 4g..each shift to me is smoother than the stock intake. or is this my imagination going wild???

The hissing is normal. If you goose the gas pedal you will hear a sucking noise too. I get it sometimes when accelerating hard between gears and it sounds sweet.

As for the vibration feedback. It is because the intake is rubbing someplace. The MHP intakes would hit the Master cylinder and you would feel it in the pedals. MHP gave a rubber gasket thing to cushion it, which fixed it.

You will notice that the engine will twist in the engine bay when you hit the gas. So I am guessing that something is restricting it and you are feeling this. This is why it is good to have a rubber conection between the intake on the engine and where the intake mounts to the body. The MHP has a couple of the rubber hose clamps that will cushion it.

I would check the intake for spots where it could rub.

Good Luck!

This is almost precisely what the problem was. The intake was too close to some round metal thing. It has a white fluid resovoir above it with a cap. I think it may be something for the brake. Anyway, when I brake, the entire engine rotates towards the passenger. This rotating and the vibration of the engine running was definately rubbing on my intake. In fact, it wore off a circle of powder coating and a very small layer of the tubing. About 1 cm in diameter so you know there is a lot of movement of that engine. I readjusted the intake so how it once was about 2mm from the area causing the wear, it now has about 5-6mm. Now when I brake you see the engine shift but it only fills about half the space of the gap. I will feel see if vibration is still happening. I suggest everyone adjust this if they are getting it! It was wearing away the tubing on my intake! At least it is underneith and where one cannot see the wear but it sucks knowing that some of the powdercoat is gone.

I happen to like that hissing sound on mine. I also noticed that it does occur after 4000 rpm's. I like the sound, but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way. One more thing, do we or do we not have to reset our computers? AND!!! Why in the hell don't I get any emails from this site????

You mean the positive terminal right? The negative wouldn't really do anything...??? the power comes from the positive...right?

I noticed u guys have different brands of CAI's. what r the costs on them? and where did u get them?
Also have u heard of a header for our car yet?

it was awful purdy! nah, i liked the look, and the night before i ordered it, i heard one in another mp3...bought it.
