Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

I have white smoke from my exhaust, but it's intermittent. I was picking up some stuff from Lowe's the other day and boy I felt like an A hole cause smoke was pouring out.

I swing behind the shop to the dealership, literally 500 feet away and boom the smoke is gone, of course. Dealership tries to replicate it, nothing, of course.

So I have it, it's just not constant.

are you using synthetic oil? Mine only smoked when i used synthetic oil...after that I went back conventional ever since. No smoke ever since.

White smoke is usually associated with water vapor after a cold start. I have a no cats and on cool mornings it could fog my rear window!
Blue smoke is the oil, black is fuel/rich happens under hard acceleration oftentimes. Sinc i am close to you here in Rochester NY and have similar temperatures i hope you have the water burning off my inside the exhaust!

would you guys buy a ms3 again even with this problem and is it fixed for good after its replaced under warranty?

I wouldn't, mainly because I've had other mechanical and suspension problems in addition to a smoking turbo(VVT actuator, EGR valve, blown struts).

sigh... smoke

Just started last week... i was sitting at a light caught a smell and thought wow someones care is smoking .... and then realized it was me.

The performance is unchanged and the smoke has only happend 3 times over a period of two weeks like this morning for instence it was smoking at the drive through ( I can always smell it long before I see it) I drove across the street to work parked and left it running sat there for 6mins no smoke.

There seems to be no pattern to it but since it never happend before and it just started up I am guessing something is on its way out the door... and of course this happens at 31282 miles I have no clue on my options other than start fighting the dealer.

Anyone else from orlando that knows a good dealer that wont try to make a supreame court issue out of my intake and catback?

Mods are: AEM intake/ turbosmart dualport (full recirc)/ SUtestpipe / GHL catback/ hypertech/ dashawk/ pginlet

That's where you're screwed... even though this problem is an effect of poor design, Mazda can use your mods as an excuse to deny warranty service. That's why my intake is gone and I'm not doing any kind of induction mods again... If you can find a "mod-friendly" dealer you might be in luck.

I can go back to stock easy enough.. and will this weekend ... but will probobly leave the catback and AEM intake as its the same as the mazdaspeed intake.

Well I will have parts up in the ole sale bin soon and after they replace the turbo... if they replace the turbo it will be bye bye speed..... which is a freakin shame cause the car is damn fun.

You better get that intake off there unless you are 100% positive the dealer is ok with it. I have read about people being denied the turbo replacement even with the dealer-installed MSCAI. Same with the catback but even more so for that. My guess (total guess) is that there is a very small chance you will get the turbo replaced since they will say that the aftermarket intake and exhaust is why it smokes.
You could try and see if they will but what if your wrong??

besides the smoke, does this affect the car in any other way? i had the issue but with the hypertech i raised the idle and it has gone away

I do have a smokey turbo, put the stock 2nd cat back on and it went away. :sigh: Mazda did the update.

Just got my car yesterday. Its a 2008 mazdaspeed3 with 42,000 miles. It has a down pipe, mid pipe. both cat-less and i believe the stock "catback" exhaust. Also a CAI if that makes a difference. I noticed it this morning when i was at a stoplight and took off, not fast.

I was showing my friends the car and of course i was getting on it a little and when i came to a complete stop white smoke started coming out bad.. what is this? what do i do to prevent it?

damn thats sad to hear. should i take off my downpipe and midpipe before i bring it in? when do the turbos usually go?

If you are within the 5yr/60k then stock out and bring it in.

I'm at 40k and on my 3rd turbo
