Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

I'm liking it alot. I'm having some sputtering issues, but I think they're unrelated. I'm not sure I've heard better things about the corksport or not. I heard the divorced design was better but cause a little more turbolag than a straight through design, plus the TXS was cheaper so I went with it. I'm not scared of noise, in fact I embrace it and encourage more, the car is not much louder under normal driving conditions, at WOT however is has a much throatier and louder growl. The corksport has exhaust hangers, the TXS has flex joints, I dunno, I guess it's just up to the purchaser.

Oh yeah almost forgot, the new found power is EFFN amazing. Boost comes on fast and hard, the tires break loose, the car plants you back like it should now.

sorry for the thread jack guys.....thanks for your input tho. i dont know why i didnt just pm you...retarded i guess.

for guys taht are smoking, whats you oil level on the dipstick , some people are seeing that adding 6 quarts is overfull and resulting in to much oil in engine and it leaking through the turbo... if the turbo is overfull.. then yea it will smoke..

just some food for thought..

He's right. If you're smoking, then check your oil level. Mine was way over Max and I was smelling a lot of oil coming from the exhaust. I ordered the rebuilt pg turbo, step colder spark plugs, and high flow fuel pump, so we'll see.

This was the exact fix for a previous car of mine, new 03 Mach 1. Smoked during startup and after prolonged idle. Reduced oil level by 1/2 quart, issue solved

well yesterday after i got home from work i pulled the dipstick, wiped it, put it back in, checked the level... and it was perfect. figured this would be the case as the car was warm. checked again this morning, and got the same result. i'm still thinking the oil could be the case though. the smoke is coming from both the engine bay/under the car as well as the exhaust, pure white. the car is still running strong... so i don't think it can be anything too serious unless the problem is in fact the seals. i'm getting my oil changed today or tomorrow and i'll make sure 5.5 quarts go in instead of the 6 to see if this will help. hopefully it'll solve the problem and save me a headache.

*starts to strongly consider bolt on turbo upgrade*

You are all freaking ridiculous.

Mazda has already acknowledged that they have a batch of turbos with bad seals. Mine was replaced under warranty.

Not sure what else can convince you guys....

i believe they are giving a hypothetical "some people" scenario. Just like stated....some people had this problem and are sharing it. so instead of everyone bringing their 3's to the dealer only for them to find out you put an extra 1/2 quart in your motor and totally screwing you over with your warranty...give your dip stick a check to avoid a huge hassle. nobody ever said this is the new reason for it....just another reason that might save you some bulls***.

Didn't notice any smoke for a week after installing my TBE. Now I'm getting a nice cloud after driving and idling for a minute. Goes away after that though. Doesn't seem bad enough for me to go the dealer yet though.

On a side note I checked my oil level and it is up above the max part on the dipstick. Oil goes up into the first notch on the dipstick. I'm gonna get an oil change before the dealer visit.

I'll add mine to the list. My car has been smoking at idle for quite some time. Blueish. I had a CS DP at the time. Now I just installed the CS RP and now I get nothing but a huge plume of blueish smoke at idle. I guess the cat was hiding the issue. I just ordered a different turbo. So hopefully I won't have to deal with this issue anymore. As for my "dip stick", I did notice it was a quart short after maybe 3000 miles. So I added a quart back so I don't spin any rod bearings. This thing is eating up oil pretty good. It was not like this when I first got the car. But then again it wasn't as modded as it is now. Car is sidelined for now till I change out the turbo. Don't need to get pulled over and fined for anything. I'll report back in a week or so and let yall know how everything is. As they say.... Ya gotta pay to play! That's why I bought this car... To play with!

you also pay to get a reliable car that doesnt smoke. its not like were putting on some crazy ass s*** here. just opening up the air flow for most of us. the problem is pre-existing. thus, your buying a car thats broken.

True, but I can not pin my turbo seals to a fault of Mazda. My car was modded one month after I got the car. Besides new wheels within that first month, I got the XEDE. Then added the ETS TMIC, then on and on and on. Now 1 1/2 years later I'm replacing my turbo. But I can see your point.

What turbo? Well everyone is trying the GT3071R. So I'm going with the GT2871R. My goal is only 350ish whp. So I think that turbo will suit my needs perfectly. I'll post up some pics of the install once it's done. So give me a week or two.

plus with the 2871 you dont need to worry about your motor blowing up 3 times like ms6 mike's. how the hell can he afford all of these motors and turbos? lol. glad he did though, he helped us learn a lot about the motor.

It's all in the tune. You could just as easily blow the motor up with either turbo if you aren't tuned properly. I'm not so confident in the tuning software available yet for this car or the knowledge of tuners since the car has only been out for a couple years.

+1... which is why i'm going with the k04 rebuild for the time being. maybe down the road i'll go with a bigger turbo after more tuning options are available.

idk man. ms6 mike knows his s*** pretty well. maybe i can pm him and get him in on the deal to help us out on the turbo problems he faced....

I just installed the CPE TBE exhaust....

not im starting to sketch about getting that blue smoke s***

how long does it take before smoke starts coming out? is it immediately following installation or does it take awhile?

thanks

Not everyone gets smoke...

Those that have, some claim a few minutes later, a few days later, and a few months later... (huh)

Getting screwed

So I took the car in today again for the smoking turbo issue and finally got them to acknowledge that the turbo is broken.... But now its sitting at the dealership and they are telling me that they might not repair it and may in fact void my warranty because I have not had my oil changes performed at the dealership. I removed my CAI before I brought it in and installed the stock air box. Modding is not their issue. Their issue is that I've performed my own oil changes. So, they want receipts and still may not be satisfied. I can't find the receipt for the last change and it is looking like I am going to get f_cked in the a hole over this deal. This will certainly be THE LAST MAZDA I WILL EVER BUY. Anyone else have a similar experience? By the way, this is Luther Mazda in Brooklyn Park, MN.
