Since I am ordering a P5 and have been somewhat confused about the roof rack and blacked out headlights threads here, I thought I'd go to the front end of the horse and ask. Responses from Mazda are as follows:
1. Why are some P5s showing up without roof racks?
1a. Canadian P5s are not made with them. No explanation why, though.

2. Why are some '03 P5s showing up with blacked out headlight reflectors?
2a. Must be a dealer modification. All P5s for the US are made with full chrome reflectors. There is no option.

It may or may not be the truth, but it is what I was told. Time will tell, as in all things.

Well, that settles the US light debate, but I think the cars I saw in Canada came from the factory like that. Maybe the rep you talked to just didn't know that?

Stump the Band

The rep I talked to had to go ask for the answers. I didn't realize that the blacked out headlight reflectors were only seen in CA. That may explain it. For some wierd reason, P5s destined for CA are really different even though they are all made in Hirosima. I'm pretty certain now that the silver P5 I'm ordering will have chrome headlights and a rack. Jim

this is an interesting post because I have been to all of my local dealers and none of the P5's have blacked out lights and when I asked both service and sales they said they hadn't heard of anything like that. I even asked parts and they said they didn't have a part number for it and therefore couldn't order it. I guess I am back to painting them myself.

that OR you have one of our canadian members go to one of THEIR dealers and get you the part number for their blacked out head light assemblies.....once you have the part number even our U.S. dealers can order it for you....but you can bet your last nickle they won't be cheap!
