caliper painting question

i painted my calipers in black six weeks ago and i already don't like them that much, they always look so dusty and are not shiny at all like before even after i wash them,my question is that if i decide to repaint them in other colors(say yellow),can i just apply them directly on?or i have to polish the caliper first or do something else or otherwise the new color won't stay too long and start to peel off soon?

any words would be appreciated...

i would say just sand them lightly with a medium-fine grit sandpaper and makesure you clesn them very well before you paint them...also putting many light coats will help too.

What type of paint did you use?

First question would be what type of paint did you use? If it is chipping and flaking off - then you will need to wire brush them clean - that will be a lot of work but you need a good base to start with.

I used G2 epoxy caliper paint - three coats of red - it should cover the black. If you go with a lighter color - yellow - you might need more coats.

Cheers!

clean them completly, and get rid of any brake dust, dirt and what not.

and sand them down until its rough, and apply whatever caliper paint you want.

i used duplicolor on mine.

if i were you i would def rough up the surfaces. but the reason they look dusty is because your calipers are getting really hot! you should go to AZ or advance and buy engine enamel with ceramic. it will withstand temps up to 1400 deg. F. (or something like that). i did the same to my 69 SS Camaro and they still shine like the day i put it on which was 2 years ago. i havent put it on my 3 yet because i dont want to drive around my SS with $3 a gal and 8 mpg. on a good day. but if i do i will def post it. good luck

thanks for the advices,guys!
I painted them in yellow and they definitely look better than black imo

i think blue or red looks awesome with a black car...actually i like any color on a black car

ya light multiple coats. you can get paint/varnish remover and brush it on the caliper then wait a bit to take the paint off.

no doubt, that thing is way sick. nice work on the calipers too, they look good.
