So I currently drive a Miata and I am in the market for a early Mazda 3 and me being the impulsive person that I am, I'm already shopping cat backs... I have seen plenty YouTube clips and I really
Like the corksport and HKS systems yet I live in California so my question is, what are my fellow Ca residents running for exhaust in their early Mazda 3's or what could I get away with to avoid keeping the stock system to swap out before every smog. Thank in advance everyone, I really enjoy this forum so far!

I'm fairly certain that CARB certifications are NOT required for aftermarket cat-back exhaust systems, here in CA.

Intake systems and exhaust headers do require certification.

My goal is get a Magnaflow muffler for the MX5 and possibly a Magnaflow cat-back for the 3.

I'm just concerned about deleting the second cat and using the cork sport high flow cat in its place, seems like it will raise some concerns.

Check out this web page:

https://ssl.arb.ca.gov/PartsSearchTool/CatalystSearchTool.aspx

for the approved cat database. If you are using Internet Explorer, click on the "Tools" icon (looks like gear in the upper right-hand corner) and select "Compatibility View Settings" Add the web site page and the drop down list will then work.

Essentially,
If an aftermarket catalytic converter is shown to be durable and meets vehicle emission control requirements, it is granted an exemption Executive Order (EO) that allows it to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles.
