Cai

i was thinking about getting a cold air intake...but for the protege they are very expensive... i was wondering if you can get a honda civic(or other) cold air and cut it/modify it... so that it fits to protege2.0.

you can get a cai for honda civic for 50$ on ebay so i might give it a try

anyone ever done that?

I wouldn't suggest cutting anything to make it fit just incase it won't fit and thats just a waste. I bought an ebay air intake that works awesome, just get one for your car its worth it (brand name or not). Mine is a no name but increased power, and the engine sounds wayy better.

buy a used one... those run 125ish around here on the fs forum.. just wait around and find one....and 125ish is a injen or k&n usually

You can get one for the protege from ebay for 50.00 or so shipped if that's where you're gonna get one. Just go get a better filter for it like a k&n. A better filter will probably be around 40.00. You can run a little while with whatever filter comes with the cai until you get the better one. Still will end up being about half as much as name brand setup.

You should be able to find a Protege-specific CAI on e-bay no problem...

If you want a cheap one, Ractive makes one that retails new for around 60 bucks. I could probably find you an aem short ram for 165 if you wanted. IMO, the ractive works but proper install is a bit tricky and the quality isnt as nice, not bad, but not great.
I would suggest saving some cash and getting the AEM.

I say go ebay for this. I've had mine for a long time and it's just as good as any other. They don't put out enough power to really do anything. I ran with guys that have the name brand CAI and OBX headers and I'm just as fast and sound just as good. Save your money for something that will really help.

Like the one I have (pictured)! Cost 40 bucks in all.

check around on the for sale thread.. i garuntee you could find a good used one for a decent price and they will be name brand

ok guys thanks i found one near me

but i think you didnt get my point i wanted a cold air intake for CHEAP... the one that goes in this hole... not the k&n AEM and stuff like this.... there are no ''no name'' intake on this link.... only big names

but thanks again

Another solution could be getting a K&N drop in panel filter for your stock intake. But if your goal is to dress up the engine bay and change the sound of the engine, then get a no name CAI.

I ran the stock intake with a drop in K&N filter, as well as a K&N CAI and found no difference in performance.
