CAI vs. SRI (winter vs. summer)? Why change?

Should I go from a CAI (fenderwell) to an SRI in winter? Why or why not? I'm guessing I need the engine compartment heat to help melt off accumulated moisture (rain, snow, ice) soas not to clog the cone filter. Anyone in the north run a CAI in winter? Anything to watch out for?

I just picked up a CAI (thanks Lee MSP102!) and figured if I asked early enough we'd be through arguing before fall... (poke)

Unless you have removed or modified the underside liner, I wouldn't worry about snow or rain getting to your CAI. I suppose CAI or SRI just comes down to personal choice. I've driven mine in snow and it rains a lot in the summer here. Never had one problem in either scenario.

It's more of a caution for people that would live near areas where it might flood. I live in CA and even though it hardly rains when it rains it floods on my street and the areas around me. I haven't had any problems but I try to not drive my car when it's raining.

Well... I'll be driving when its raining, but I'm not fording any streams so it sounds like I'll be OK.

Thanks for the assists and sharing the experience.

You would have to go pretty deep in watter for it to matter, the filter being inside the bumper and all.

If flooding is a real issue just add on the AEM bypass valve, no more worries.

Getting the air outside the engine bay is quite benificial. Its not always evident on a Dyno, because your not moving, & Pulls are normally done with some cool down time & not really displaying the benifits from longer drives, hot engines & ect.

i just bought an injen cai splash guard(thx dumb keola) im hoping it will help with the rain bein as it rains a bit here in nj,also help secure it from water w/o losing small if any performance gains from the injen cai.

you'd have to basically try to ford a river to hydrolock your car man, dont worry about it, just keep your cai clean and you wont have a problem

I got thhe splash sheild from Injen too.

Little advice would be to find the contact point between the sheild and the car frame (They will make contact with the engines movements, mostly the vibes at idle)

Put a small peice of pad/rubber/whatever you want so its not the sheild tapping the inside of the bumper metal on metal, because it gets annoying.

The main benifit to it is that the filter stays a little more clean & wont get splashed by watter making it in. I got no regrets.

i installed it yesterday, and have no tapping issues.the guard is like 3cm away from frame of car.but no tapping yet.but will do wut you recommended if it does occur.the guard makes it sound deeper instead of a high pitch turkey.it was a pain in a$$ to install cause its so damn bulky.no regrets though.

if it ever got really bad here, ive been gettin tips from forum members to just convert it to a sri,by taking off the 2nd part of the cai and just putting the filter on the MAF

well, boston is about to float away with all the goddamn rain we've been having, and i havent had a problem with my CAI yet....just stay out of the deep parts of the puddles
