OK...I voted, now I'll explain my vote. I'm not gonna come back on to argue, it's my opinion.
CAI will introduce Colder air = more density (more air, or more importantly oxygen, molecules per cubic foot, if you will). Once inside your system, this air will obviously be heated considerably...but when it's heated it will expand inside your breathing system.
SRI will introduce Warmer air = less density. This air will also undergo expansion, but there will be less air molecules to expand, therefore it will take up LESS VOLUME.
THEREFORE - the colder the intake air, the more molecules you will have being forced into your TB.
As far as "restriction"...I have a hard time believing that that little Garrett T-25 is pulling so hard as to be restricted w/ just that extra elbow in the intake system.

Just my $.02....take it w/ a grain of salt as they say. :D

In other words: "We feel that the gains are so minimal between the two, that we dont want to take away sales from our higher priced CAI."
Yep!

Injen gettin' owned.(dance)

I'm going with cold air intake.. Why? Because even the turbo people I know are using CAIs on their turbo cars.

As for Injen ownage.. How about this.. My Injen CAI I had on my Celica GT-S made my car bog down at low RPM starts and it lost all traces of low end torque. Basically, it drove like crap under 3500 RPMs. Now I have the eBay CAI on my P5. :)

When I test drove a GTS, it didn't pull till really late in the powerband. So that sounds normal. :)

No dude.. The car ran great with the stock intake.. When I put the Injen on it seriously felt like it was choking the engine.. Under full throttle the car would even buck forward because the engine was straining to get air into it.. My dad took it to work and had the high performance tech look at it, who said it was a bad design because the MAF sensor bolted onto the intake right on a bend, which caused an erratic reading of the air when there wasn't an extremely large volume flowing through it. I cleaned my MAF and did everything that people were trying on NewCelica.org but nothing helped. I'm not the only person that had this problem too. The Mazda design is MUCH MUCH better. I know Injen normally makes good parts, but the CAI for the Celica was a pretty half assed attempt I'd say.

When it's colder outside I'm going to take a guess and say your car feels a little more responsive. Why is that? (huh)
Yeah, with a good 20 degree drop.

I think it basically boils down to this, if the IC isnt effecient (which it isnt) its not going to matter.

Just remember that every PRO FWD on the IHRA circuit just runs some wire mesh over the turbo inlet.

Drag cars are COMPLETELY different.. Firstly, those engines are meant to be torn down after each race. If something happens to the engine they can rebuild it. Also they aren't going to experience heat soak in the engine bay because when you are ready to race you start the car, do your run, and then shut the engine back down and pop the hood. There isn't really time for exorbitant amounts of heat to build up in there.

When I was running boost with no intercooler, the car would run a million times better, even with the slightly lower temps at night.

I'm a firm believer if a CAI or SRI showed any improvements, they'd use it.

Dude.. the reason they DON'T run them is because it's causing restriction in the air flow.. But they fire the engine up, do their run, and shut the car down... Of course they're not going to want that restriction there.. But we're talking about a REAL WORLD DAILY DRIVER, not some drag car. I ran open TB on my Mustang for a while and yeah it had it's benefits, but only for a few minutes after the car had just been started.

it was a joke. I have nothing against Injen, I just think that for what a CAI is, its pretty overpriced. I just took off the sound resonator box crap, and cut out the bottom of the Air filter box, but left the part that connects the box to the car, and put a k&n filter in. It makes a bit of difference in throttle response and noise level, and only cost me the price of the filter. Works for me, I just would rather have that extra 200 bucks to go buy something more useful.

I've seen plenty of daily drivers that dont use a CAI or SRI, some cars just run out of room.

I Think This Thread Is Pointless.....everyone Has Their Opinion..................mine Is For The Sri :)
