CAI for P5 from the dealer?!?

Hey,

I just bought a P5 (YEAH!!) yesterday and the dealer offered me a cold air intake with a K&N filter, they wanted about $190CAN with installation. Never knew that Mazda offers performance parts through the dealer, the sales guy claimed it would give the P5 about 10hp.

Any comments on the CAI from Mazda??

you would get about 5hp... at the engine..... 1 hp maybe at the wheel.. it will add great throttle response, and your engine will sound a bit nicer (imo). I think it is a nice upgrade, but that is a joke price. .... i bet the one they are using is ractive... you can find it at some places for 110 CAD in edmonton here... better look around,.

My dealer stocks AEM intakes. It doesn't have to be from Mazda for a dealer to sell it to you and install it on your new car.

Sounds like a good deal considering it has a K&N filter. Of course, my conversion could be off. It's like $6CAN=$1US, right? :D

Jaman when you get a chance log on to toprotege.com, I really dont' think this a good CAI for 190$ Cdn? Find out exactly what they are offerning before you buy it. Cause i only know of two kind of CAI the Ingen one...which is around 350$cdn and Ractive one(but it has to be modified to be a CAI) If your looking for just a normal fun intake, i've got a place in markham that sells the Ractive ones for 97$ including tax!

Let me know i'm hear to help!

With shipping/handling and border fees you're not too far off ;) , but seriously, $1.60cdn = $1.00us. I still think it doesn't make sense...not good for trade.

My dealer sells AEM Intakes also. They put one in my car before I bought it. Along with a Mazdaspeed Exhaust (sounds sweet and low). My dealer Modded out my MP5 before I bought it. My signature includes the mods, I have done nothing to the car at this point, all is from the dealer. They can hook you up if you want them to, but I guess it depends on the dealer.

That's awesome. You can truly call your car an "MP5".

Who said an aftermarket CAI installed by a dealer would keep your warranty intact?

In reality, only if the CAI causes a problem with an associated part (let's say the engine, for example) would the warranty be void for that part. Of course, if the dealer where you bought your car puts on aftermarket parts you could make a pretty good argument that they should still honor your warranty even if it blows up your engine.

crazy_d,
What did you pay for that badboy? Also, removal of the roof racks would make it look (and sound) even better at high speeds! Just my .02, since I did it to mine.

Let's just say i paid a pretty penny for that car. They actually sold it to me for like 20-21k. Not bad for and 18k car with 5k worth of mods on it from the dealer. I am seriously considering taking off that roof rack now, JPBlackMP5 is about the 5-6th person who has said that. How do you do it? I search the forums and found a "how-to" but I don't know what they meant by putting in the inserts after you take it off, help???

By the way, an intake shouldn't void your warranty, unless like JasonH said, it causes a problem and it is tracible to the intake being at fault. I have had intakes on my last 3 cars, no problems with the dealer.

Crayz.....if you are talking about COMPLETELY removing the rack...tracks and all....here is what you will need:

Part #'s

BJ3D-50-9L0D
BJ3D-50-9H0D

0 = "zeros"

Here is a tutorial that one of the members did a while back when he took his rack completely off.....there are a lot of good pictures and will give you a very good idea what all is involved.

Ditto to what SirN said. Funny, when I had the dealer take the roof rack off when picking up my car the inserts were in the trunk in a plastic bag. I'd ask your dealer 1st, before buying the parts he listed. The inserts fit right in to leave the plastic "rails" looking complete w/o those unsightly holes where the bolts go.
