The economy is weakening, recession is imminent, gas is over $4, and GM thinks the American middle class wants this??

This is yet again another pure example of GM missing the beat 2 years later. The Dodge Magnum was a hit, now it's extinct. I guess they're expecting to fill the void by offering a GM wagon but only even MORE expensive.

The people who would be buying this, would rather buy a Mercedes or BMW M wagon.

People are already trading in SUVs for wagons. I do not think GM missed the boat. Chrysler should bring back the Magnum. Which sold really well where I live.

There are scores of wagons and sportwagons on the road here in New England. Everything from Mazda6s to Outbacks to Magnums and BMW and Benz Tourings.

I can see a market for this car.

Maybe elsewhere, but people will laugh at this in MI. I'm no domestic-hater. I've been a long-time customer. I'm just a frustrated previous customer of theirs that wishes they'd get a clue. These days, they're running on borrowed time and that RenCen building will be up for rent if they don't get their act together.

Their money makers were in high-volume cars. Not expensive speciality cars. They need a high-volume, popular, affordable and reliable line up. Not one or two specialty cars that will supposedly turn things around.

Just my $.02. Of course, I could be completely wrong and it'll sell like crazy.

i'm confused. what should they build? should cadillac put out a 4-cylinder economy car?

BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, and the rest sell the hell out of midsize wagons, and i've seen the infiniti EX popping up all over the place.

GM is rather a big monster so I'm sure the Cadillac sister divisions (i.e. Chevy) are more worried about developing a high-volume, popular, affordable and reliable line-up. My guess is that if Cadillac does that, it will lose its identity.

The latest Cadillacs (and of course the CTS) have been highly regarded in their own segment, so that, and the SUV sales decline, may give Cadillac a good chance of doing well with the wagon (although there is no 6MT like for its CTS brother (protest))

...Oh, and for small cars made by Cadillac, don't forget the 4cyl Cimarron, not a good reference ...

I wasn't trying to imply that Cadillac should make 4cyl econo cars. I just think GM's priorities may not be in order. Gas is through the roof yet they think they are going to compete with the Mustang and sell Camaros like hotcakes. I hate to say it but it isn't going to happen. The timing is all wrong yet again. They too much too late. Not profitable. And they wonder why they are in the situation they are in. Consumers are wising up and its time I feel GM should do the same really. Thats what I meant out of my criticism.

the camaro will do just fine. there are plenty of well-heeled older buyers out there who will spring for one for (faster, more comfortable, more reliable) a trip down memory lane. plenty of automakers are having no trouble unloading mega-HP cars, b/c the buyers either figure it's worth paying for the extra fuel, or aren't really affected by the gas prices. the camaro was never going to be a big volume seller for a company like GM anyway.

i agree w/ tinman; the image and positive press (and showroom visits) generated by the camaro are at least as important as the sales figures.
