Cabin Filter?

Where does it go and are there any pics/instructions on replacement? I've checked the owner's manual, and it does not give instructions.

It is behind the glove box. You need to pull the glove box apart and you will see it from there.

Just how much of it do you have to disassemble? Can you just remove the part that folds out, or is there more involved?

Thanks for the info,

pollen filter?

is it just a dust filter, or does it filter out pollen? is it a charcoal filter like the mini cooper?

it's not hard to get the glovebox out. I'll upload some picts I took when spicing into the video output from the navigation system. First you need to unlatch the stop hook, just hold the box from being totally open and push it back and it will come right out. Then there is a post that holds the tensioner thing that keeps it from opening with a bang which is right behind the hook and finally the hooks that form the main hinge should pull towards you, but they are all plastic so take it easy and examine them before you just yank to make sure you're getting the angle right.

The tensioner thing I THINK is just a plastic post, and you have to hold the tensioner post and push up on the glovebox door and it will then pop up to a wider part which will let you pull the tensioner off the post to the left. But it's been several months since I've done this, so look closely ;)

When I was in there I didn't specifically notice anything that was obviously the air filter and it doesn't show up on the pictures that I'm uploading as far as I can see. But there was a lot of HVAC stuff towards the center of the car, it wouldn't surprise me if it was easily accessible right there.

Watch out when messing around under there, the passenger air bag is right above the glove box.

Replacing cabin air filter

So did you find it in the glove box? In another forum, it's described as being behind the plastic trim panel next to the gas pedal.

You shouldn't have to remove the glove box for the mazda 5. I just replaced the one on our 06 5 last week. There are 2 panels under the glove box that easily come off then you can access it from there. The mazda 3 on the other hand i believe you need to pull the glove box. On the install sheet with the filter from mazda it even said that on mazda 5s you skip a couple steps to replace it.

It is kind of a sob to get at a couple of the screws but if you have a stubby screwdriver you should be ok.
