Hello all, this is my long overdue Mazda 2 STF autocross build thread. This car is being built for local competition and will be fairly mild. I will mainly be posting event pictures/results and further upgrades.

When I first got the car.

FUTURE PLANS- Rear bar, Corksport SRI, Rear Motor mount.

Had an Autocross event with NCR-SCCA today (5/18). Waiting on official results, but I placed 7th PAX overall! very excited about that.

Will be racing again tomorrow, and will post up more pictures and results when I get them.

Congrats! The car looks awesome in race trim. Love the magnets. I usually just get the basic boring ones. Actually I cut my P's (from when I was in ESP) to make F's when I started taking the 2 out to events.

Car looks sick... wondering why you choose the corksport lowering springs over h&r? Does corksport have better spring rates, lower the car "better", lower price or all of the above? I wanted to know because next season I'll be getting the CS adjustable shocks/struts but wondered if the CS springs will be better paired rather then H&R.

Nice!

Gotta love the BLACK 15X7.5 6UL's! I have a set on my Mazda2 as well and they look so good on a lowered Mazda2. I'm running Biltsein Coilovers and I have my Mazda2 set up for the road course.

Keep up the good work and great driving!

Corksport springs lower the car more than H&R, and have spring rates 25% over OEM vs 30% over OEM for H&R. Front/rear weight bias may differ as well since the CS springs lower the rear more than the front, where H&R springs is opposite.

I'd think with the H&R springs being stiffer they would have the advantage on track, but I wonder what the difference in front/rear ride heights does to the weight bias.

Thanks for info. Yea I mainly went with the corksport springs for lower ride height. I'm glad I did, because I think it looks nice and low. The car is handling fairly flat and am happy with the spring rates right now.

No shortage of competition this weekend. Plenty of fast drivers. Many who have trophied at nationals. The courses were well designed, fast and flowy. Was a great time and my first 2 day autocross!

The car felt great, running adjustable shocks full stiff in the rear and right in the middle stiffness for the fronts. Started with 40f and 45r pressure on the z2 and kept it close to there throughout the weekend. Felt very balanced and was rotating nicely. Will post a few run vids soon!

Great results. The focus on the second day was quick, is it a well sorted car or a lucky driver?

Yes both driver and the focus was fast. He has all the STF goodies. Coilovers, upgraded springs, big rear bar, intake, exhaust, tune. He has been autocrossing a CRX for around 7 years. Great guy, had a blast battling throughout the day.

Nice result, great to see you looking ahead in second pic...Car still looks a bit soft though, loading up outside front. Have you tried cranking the fronts.?

Thanks! No, I just ran medium on the fronts and full stiff adjustment in the rear. I doubted much of an effect of increased dampening, with the low spring rates being the culprit of the body roll.

First and foremost this is my daily driver, so idk how willing I will be to do a custom spring setup.

I still need to get the racing beat rear bar. With keeping these softer springs, could it be a great benefit for me to get a front sway bar as well?

Certainly. I'd try the CS front bar paired with the racing beat rear bar. I think the RB front bar would be overkill, just speculation though.

The CS bar does not include collars (and the bar WILL walk over to the subframe) so make sure to get some if you go that route.

CS front bar with RB rear sounds like a good plan. Thanks for tips on collars.

Yes and absolutely get the RB bar, especially with the softer front springs. If you do all that work to swap out the front bar, do it and done...once. I think the front roll rate in this car is everything. Do anything you can to get more crisp turn in. You can always hike up rear tire pressure to gain rotation in addition to the RB rear bar until a solution has been found to eliminate or minimize the massive amount of toe in the rear has..

Wooooo! Just got back from a local autox. Got a site back that we haven't had in 2 years. It is only a mile away from my house, which is very nice compared to all our other sites which are 2 hours away.

Last weekend I installed the awr motor mount and I think it was a huge improvement in the feel of the throttle and shifter.

Well today I ended up 2nd PAX! out of 77 cars. Very happy mazda 2 owner here! I will post full results and pictures when I get them.
