Buying a Mazda 3 SP23

I'm another newbie.. I've got a 12 wk wait on my new SP23. I ordered mine on the 10/07/04 and was told that i probably won't see it till the start of Octover :(
I've opted for the sedan largely due to the fact it reminds me ( looking side on ) of a sleek classic Audi etc.. Nice smooth lines & not overdone or over the top etc. Plus the hatch's boot space is 100ltrs less. ( appears alot smaller & not a deep as the SP20's hatch )

Some may call me strange but I'm converting back to a FWD SP23 from a MY99 WRX with 200kws ATW's.
Don't get me wrong..the WRX is an awesome car & still would have to be one of the best allround Bang - 4 - Buck cars. But i've driven 2 SP23's one sedan & one hatch etc & a few Neo's, and found they all handle rather well. The best thing is I don't have the typical law enforcement hassles with owning one.
Can't wait for the SP23 to arrive & catch up with a few Brissy members for a cruise etc.

woohoo! another newbie! :D

welcome trdans!

i have to say great upgrade in cars!!!! :D

there's plenty of info on this site so i'm sure you'll enjoy it. and yep, we'll need to arrange another brisbane cruise shortly...

yep that's still on - still havent had a reply from the guys at mercury motorsport as to if you need to book in a time or just rock up

will keep everyone updated on that...

The guys from Mercury Motorsport have been along to a few of the WRX QLD club meetings...Top blokes i have to say. Twilightprotege, yeah i'll definately been keen for the cruises etc But atm i'm still in outsider mode as i'm still cruisin in the WRX till the new beastie arrives.

Seeing you've been a long time member etc are there many Turbo SP20's or 3's etc floating around in Aus?

only 2 turbo sp20's that i know about, but i think a 3rd, 4th and 5th are on the cards shortly... no modified 3's as far as i know.

yeah trent and cameron are pretty cool guys. nice and easy to talk to. it's quite amusing to watch them two have a power war with their 200's! hehehehe

anyway, i certainly have the most modified NA sp20 around...but a few are starting to tinker!

i got it done at bryant engineering at salisbury - quite happy with the work and price. cams done at tighe engineering

6k is pretty much all custom engine work - esp head work, camshafts, full exhaust.

and dont worry if a question is simple - we all had to learn somewhere!

to see if 6k is enough, after the queens birthday long weekend when i get a dyno run i will let you know what is possible. i am probably down on power due to my restrictive resonators, but they will be changed out eventually. they are probably robbing 5whp at the moment i'd guess, maybe more.

just found this thread! is 175kw for $6K without a turbo for real? if so please share :D

175kw at the engine shouldnt be a problem yeah

$1500 full exhaust
$800 cams
$300 intake
$1900 head port and intake manifold porting
$1500 ecu and tuning

so for me, all i need is ecu and i should be getting close to that figure (hopefully)

wow can't wait to see how it turns out. i might have to revise my goal of 130kw :)

the problem with me is that i'd already be there if i didnt spend money on other parts of the car (like suspension and brakes), but i'll eventually get there...
