Hi everyone one. I am looking for a bit of insight to the Mazda6 engines. I am currently in a MSP so I am familiar with Mazda's to some extent but not fully. I am thinking of buy a Mazda6 GT for my wife. The car is in great shape and has 170xxx km on it. (I'm from Canada). The price is low but the engine does have a knock. I have not personally heard it but the mechanic said he thought it was a stuck lifter and it would fix itself but it never did. Now, my question is, are these engines known for issues with rods or lifters or anything else wearing out? I scoured the forums for a few hours but I can't find a solid answer. Some people are having issues but others say they are great. I am going to take it out for a drive on Friday. Any tips on what to look for? I don't mind replacing some stuff in the engine, I just don't want to sink a ton of money into it. I do most car work myself the labour cost would be a minimum. So any advice on what to look for or listen for would be great.

Ya it's a v6. So this is typical eh? Anyone know what repair cost involved for this are? What needs to be replaced?

What year? Precat failure was a 03-05 thing, haven't heard of issue after those years. Is it at idle only? Could be lifter tick which is common and nothing to worry about.

EDIT: A video would be great.

It is the 05. But a lifter click compared to a clunk sound fairly diffrent. The mechanic that looked at it said possible lifter but wasn't sure.

Alright. I am looking at it Friday. I'll try to upload some footage. I'll keep you guys updated.

Well that was a waste of time. The guy ended up selling it on me. But on the way there I found a 04 mazda6 and ended up picking that up for a great price. Just have to work a few bugs out of it. They replaced the fuel pump at the dealer but did a crappy job so now I have a fuel leak at the tank somewhere. And the drl are not working which I need to figure out to get it safetied.
