But P5 Out of State--California Certified?

Hi,

I live in Bay Area and thinking of buying a P5 in Nevada because they seem to be cheaper according to carsdirect.com

Problem is Cali DMV requires all vehicles purchased out of state to be California certified. Can anyone confirm that their engine or anywhere in the card has the phrase 'California certified' printed??

Thanks!

Victor

welcome to the board.

its gonna be certified no matter what. the brand new p5s are gonna be emissions legal in all 50 states. however, if youre looking to save money on sales tax, you will still pay your hometowns sales tax.

also, i would suggest checking out the link at the bottom of my sig for more info on this board!

I hear if you buy the car in NV, and don't 'import it' to california for 6 month, you will have to pay much less tax...Same goes with oregon, but I'm not the one telling you about this :)

odd. as far as i know, the address you live at is the one you have to pay tax at regardless.

The car is already super cheap in California plus, they tax you according to the permanent address of the buyer. I just bought mine a week ago through carsdirect.com and I paid $17491.17 including tax and licensing, it'll probably be cheaper now since Arnold repealed the car tax yesterday. Good Luck with the car shopping, its an awesome car and remember 2003 is the last year Mazda will be selling P5s so buy early and get what you want and don't settle.

I bought mine last weekend with side air bags/moonroof/6 CD changer/Leather Seats for less than $16K including tax and licensing fee :D. Basically I had $5000 off MSRP (including cash and college rebates) .... save yourself some trouble and just buy in California.... I went shopping all the bay area dealers and I know what they have in stock and how much bargaining power one have in each dealer. Let me know if you need some insight.
